View Full Version : Does vDROOP still happen with Conroe CPUs?

Hi Gang,

I am suffering vDroop problems with my overclocked 805D. I run my computer 24/7 under partial load. I run a Grid-type program that uses 30-60% CPU load. I thought I found a stable Vcore of 1.4675v to get my 805D to 3.6Ghz, but it appears that vDroop is causing the occassional reboot. I tried 1.475v, but the computer rebooted itself about an hour ago. Now, I am up to 1.4875v. I do have very good air cooling (Zalman 9500LED) and the fan is running at full speed.

Currently, my Probe II readings are as follows:

CPU Temp: 55C under partial load (will hit ~ 67C under full load)
MB Temp: 40C
Vcore: 1.43-1.44v (with the 1.4875v setting)

Also, this didn't happen as much before. I have had this setup running for about a month now. The only thing I have done recently is update the BIOS to 1101 in preparation for a Conroe upgrade.

Is vDroop causing this or is it something else like the BIOS?

Is vDroop an issue with Conroes?

Yes it does. It's fixed easily with the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a simple conductive ink mod across a single resistor. I assume there's a fix for your Asus also but it may not be that simple.

There's a droop mod for that Asus P5W DH Deluxe, if I'm correct it requires a removal of rice size resistor and replacing it with a trimmer.

So vDroop is likely the cause of my problem?

I had that same issue with my D805 rebooting occasionally and not clocking much over 3.6 and did a simple pencil vdroop mod and it's now happily chugging along at 4Ghz. I havent put my vcore over 1.4 though, whats weird about my vdroop mod and its the case with anyone who does it on the P5ND2 is it actually gives a slight boost when it goes under load so that may be helping me a bit. But I would say yes, that sounds like the issue, I know it was for me.

The added resistance of the Vmod gives the vcore a small overvolt ;)

If thats the case, why wouldnt board manf. make them like that to begin with, considering its so easy to do and would benefit them greatly with enthusiasts.

^^^ i'm sure there's a reason behind it.

probably tolerance or reliability issues for certain components.

Can someone measure vcore on asus p5w dh. I currently have that board with special vdroop mod on it and 805. I measured vcore with mutlimeter and compared it against software measurement, software vcroe measurment is off.

Pretty much every board has some vdroop which is probably intended.

Vdroop is part of intel's specs to help safegard against hot conditions and hard loads, undervolting the processor helps to lenghen the lifespan of the processor when stock speeds cause the Vdroop to kick in.

multi meter readings on the motherborad are far more accurate then software readings.

It might a different setting i the bios, or possibly memory related. I have happily ran 24/7 for quite a while now at 3.92 with 4.8 vcore. That includes folding and encoding etc....not one reboot so far.

According to AI booster my vcore droop is .10. If I set the bios to 1.50V it reads 1.55V on AI and droops to 1.45V under full load. I was wondering if the pencil "getto mod" works on the P5LD2 also? I wanted to do this mod because with my current bios it won't boot if I select vcore voltage higher than 1.50V.

fixed that for ya

Well no wonder why it's throttling like Hell, Stilletto!....That's way too much vcore bro....hehe joking:D

@Mark099 measure the vcore under load with a meter, I've gone up to 1.5 vcore on air. Those temps under full load need to be addressed. I lapped my 805 IHS

OOOPS. um, yea, uh 1.48. WOW that would be some hefty voltage

Well, I guess I will just live with it for now.

BTW... if I set the vcore to 1.55v, the CPU will run at 3.9Ghz.

i can take my 805D to 4.4 - 4.6 ghz with 1.6v, does anyone know of a vdroop mod for the p5wdg2?
