Is there away to get xvid/divx support on a dell laptop with media direct. I can't play them with the MD feature. I did a google search, but it didnt turn much up.
First of all I just about died when I saw your avatar, good stuff.
it's alot of friggin work but you could convert your movies to a compatable format  When I got my i9300 I removed media direct and have it configured to automatically load plain windows media player immeateatlly during windows load... it works for me. sorry i'm not that much help.

From the reviews that I've read, if you have formatted and reinstalled Windows on the laptop after getting it, the load times shouldn't be that much slower than the MEdia Direct option. The media direct is just loading a stripped version of winXP.
But to directly answer your question, I don't know...but if it's just a windows XP environment, there could be a way to get a codec installed in there? :)
EDIT: Let me know if you manage to get it working...my E1705 should hopefully be here sometime this week (UPS willing). And if the media direct is actually more useful than i think it will be, then maybe I won't get rid of that partition.

I think its useful. It does boot faster, and shoudl be a bit easier on battery life since theres no other programs in the background. I don't know how to install the codec, but ill do some research here and try to figure it out.

I juts have to figure out how to view the hidden partition. Any ideas on what program to use to do that? Then i assume i just slip the codec file into the right folder and it should work.

I can't mount the partition with windows, or partition magic, so I have no idea how to out the codecs where they need to go.

hopefully mine will be here in a few hours! :) it's "Out for delivery" and when it comes from this particular distribution center, it usually gets here before 11am (it's 8:40 now)
