Would a 550 watt be overkill for this setup?

Lian-Li PC65 w/3 80MM case fans and a PCI slot fan
MSI KT266A mobo
MSI Geforce 3 Ti200
Thermalright SK-6 w/38CFM Delta
Heculees Game Theater XP
256MB PC2400
60GB IBM 7200RPM
3Com NIC
CD-RW
DVD-ROM
Floppy

Probably gonna add some lighting inside and maybe another fan of two later on also.

In my opinion, when picking a power supply, nothing is overkill.

It will just give you more headroom to work with later...so long as it's a good 550W PSU. A generic 550W PSU isn't necessarily even as good as a quality 400W.

550 watt is more than enough. i read that some ppl in here run like P4s with like 7 harddrives not including cdrom/dvd/cdrw. plus sound ata controllers video cards like ge3s. all from 300watts

OK I will just get a 550watt Enermax then.

I woul;d rather have more power than I need than not enough

i was comparing the two myself.

i went with a 431 because it was a lot cheaper, and the fact that the only BIG difference in amperage was on the 12v line. i dont use 10+ fans, so realistically the 431 worked out great for me.

1.2@1481 @ 1.88v
currently 3 hard drives
1 cdrom
1 cdrw
1 jaz
1 zip
2 120mm fans on rheostat
2 80mm fans on one rheostat
abit kt7a-r mb
vodoo5 5500 (needs a power line run from the psu)
adaptec 2940uw
sb live drive
linksys 10/100 nic
sblive card
digidoc 5
512MB pc150 cl2 ram

all running smooth as can be on my enermax 431. but having more power aint gonna hurt (except maybe your wallet).
