Hi there you helpful people. I have just had built a AMD 1.2 with 256 stick of DDR, Epox 8k7a+ raid M/B, 31 gig H/d, Ati 32 meg graffix.
Anyway every thing runs fine until I try and shut it down and power it up again, the lights come on, but reset button and power buttons dont work and I have to unplug from the mains and leave it for @ least 30 minutes,as if I try to go straight on again, the lights come on but theres no activity ie checking the floopy and cd drives etc. I have plenty of cooling inside, if any one has any ideas please respond simply as I`m thick

Hi fstp13, welcome to the Forum,
Plz, what kind of power Supply are you using in your Box (Brand & Watt) and the on/off cable switch is properly installed on the Mobo?

Just a guess, but could the mobo going into SUSPEND? You might try turning off all power management in bios and os.

I had a similar problem with a laptop once and had to turn APM off until there was an update for it.

Good Luck!

I was thinking along the same lines as The Doors, it sounds like a PSU problem, atleast the first place to start.

You will get better responses if you post this in General Hardware, or in the appropriate mobo/cpu section, i.e., AMD/Intel

I`m running win ME, how do I access the power management in win and the bios? In bios power management is set to user define?
Thank you all, this is a great place to learn!

to get to bios press DELETE (usually, sometimes F1) as the pc boots. Power management is in there somewhere.

I don't know WinME, but it should be in Control Panel somewhere.

power managment is in the display properties in windows. open the display properties and click on screen saver tab it is on the bottom of the page

Does the 8K7A have the little 2 digit led display somewhere on the board? I dunno if anyone has ever worked with a POST card, but as the BIOS POSTs, it sends updates to a certain address which can be read by a post card. They're expensive lil buggers, but a lot of the epox mobos have been coming with something equivalent onboard. When it's just sitting there, not doing anything, take the side off (if it's not already) and look on the board for a two digit display. If it's just doing nothing at all, or after it finishes POST and starts to boot, it will be FF. Otherwise it should change. If it hangs on something, look it up in your mobo manual.
Peace
John

I know how to get into bios, but there is not an option to turn power management off, as I said before, its set to user define

OR, does user define mean you control the power management through windows ie control panel etc. as madman suggests?

What are you talking about in the bios you can't turn it off... ? What section of the bios are you looking at?
