Today while surfing the OC Volt Modding forum I came across the Official 7900GT VoltMod thread and it had such a well drawn out plan of action that I immediately got in my car and drove out to the nearest radio shack. Then I sat down and, using the pictures as a guide, successfully volt modded my vGPU to 1.5! Ive got my 7900GT running at 700/1700! Before, it tended to be unstable at 580 on stock volts and now its rock solid stable! Thank you ocforums!

Im going to see how much further I can push it. Ill post my results.

very nice post some pics of the card are run some bench marks

bro did you do that on stock cooling?
if so... change that... you dont want to damage such a nice card and the work you did

get ur self one of those Zalman VF900-CU Copper Dual Heatpipe heatsink and fan,, you wont regret it and u'll keep the card nice and cool

Well sorry for the delay, but I did the vMem mod last night and Im afraid of the one chip on the back getting too hot so Im waiting until I get some more ram heatsinks in to make sure i dont fry it. I touched it after it had been running for a few hours and it almost burnt me. When I get them in, (in about 2 days) Ill update with pics of it all.

@SNieX I do have the vf900 and I love it.

I was pulling 720/1800 last night before I found out about the chip on the back. This volt modding has added 1300 points to my 3dmark05 score.

alright, I couldnt wait 2 days so I decided to make a diy heatsink for the chip

its not held on by anything but some thermal grease. Its not a perm solution but it will work for now... I hope.... ;)

Edit: I just checked it with an infrared temp. sensor and its at 60C! The chips to the left (the 3 square black ones closest to it) are registering at 55C each as well. Whats the point were they are in trouble?

I wonder how well it compared to the stock 7900GT

Well i made another heatsink out of that AMD Athlon heatsink i had laying around by cutting out another square of it with a bandsaw and then sanding the bottom of it. I put them both on the back of the card to help with the overheating. Currently Im at 696/1760 completely stable with no artifacts. To put that into perspective, a 7900GTX runs at 650/1600 stock so this is a really big proformace boost from a stock 7900GT. I am completely happy with my volt modding experience (That is if it lasts).

Don'tcha love pwning 7900GTXs for alot less cash? ;)

I I put DIY heatsinks on the ram and the mem power regs on the top of the card, like you did. Mine's on watercooling so I needed something for the ram. I haven't done a mem vmod yet but I'm at 1800 on the ram. Since the speed is so high for the ram I may just leave it as-is and not bother with a vmem mod. Likewise 690 gpu is ok for me too, so I probably won't go to the next step and start soldering a 1.55 vgpu mod on either. I'll grab some pics this weekend, I need to do that anyways ;)

For some reason, it is no longer stable. When I close out of a game, it just flashes black and the corrupted desktop and is impossible to recover from. Heat is not an issue so im going to assume it is the mods. Im going to reverse all the mods, clean it with alcohol and then retest it to see if it is damaged. If it is, then ill send it back to eVGA.

what would you guys reccomend doing the vmod for to a stock cooled eVGA 7900gt?

If I read right I can increase it by .1 and .05 correct?

Final stable speeds after I shaded the frequency switching resistor:

 700/1920 @ 1.55v/2.246v:eek:

Its completely stable besides that sometimes it doesnt like to switch into 3d mode and just crashes my computer... But thats understandable :)

Im getting my waterblock on thursday so lets see if I can improve those just a little or at least make it like switching to 3d mode.

Its got a 120 under the vf900 almost touching it to cool the ram more and an 80mm on the back cooling the ram heatsinks on my ICs
