After setting up new rig all was going grand untill.....

"No Signal" randomly pops up on screen, ie. black screen:confused:

I'm using a vx912 with this card, not overclocked or anything

Running scan for artifacts in ATITools makes instant signal loss every time!!!

It can happen anytime. Whats going on???

It's seated properly in PCI-e slot

(Recently got this card off a reputable seller on ebay, as stop-gap till r600)

I'm at a loss, any help is much appreciated:shrug:

I'm having a similiar problem with my X800GTO 4x/8x AGP though. I was getting a black screen. But now I'm getting another error and slow response time.

What type of chipset do you have on your motherboard a VIA?

I'm starting to get the feeling that the sapphire x800 GTO is just a crappy card...

I was having Issues with this card after I installed it for the first time. Random sections of the screen would be missing. The card was properly seated in the slot too. It tried fiddling with the waterblock and it stopped doing it after a while, so make sure the heatsink is on right. BTW, mine is a PCI-E card from PowerColor.

My sis in law has an X800gto in her computer, It is a Sapphire and it has been a really nice card so far, I would use drivercleaner to make sure no remnants of other drivers are causing any ill effects and it seems her card works best with the Catalyst 6.4's.
I would also check temps and make sure they are not an issue, Hers is the fireblade addition and while the temps were very good, The extremely loud fan led to me putting on a Silencer. All in all a very good card and great O.C.er.

Mine's also PowerColor, gonna remove card + drivers + check card + reinstall latest drivers, but I've a feeling it will do no good

I tried underclocking but made no difference + don't think heat is issue from what I see in everest/speedfan

Now that I think about it I may have installed chipset drivers after video card drivers, could that be it?

I read somewhere that devices may have to be reinstalled after chipset driver installation

If you did install your chipset drivers after vid drivers, I would remove them both, run driver cleaner pro in safe mode, and then reinstall in the proper order (chipset first, reboot, then vid driver). Can't hurt to give it a try...

Yep I must have messed up the vid drivers by installing chipset drivers afterwards because........:D

A full removal + re-install of drivers has fixed the prob:clap: :p  :santa:

Good to hear, While they are older cards, They do a decent job on most the current games.

It's continually forced into VPU recovery when gaming. It seems more stable than before ie. its not failing in windows/desktop environment but its crashing any 3d intensive app.

If you still mean that your monitor loses signal: turn off VPU Recovery.
I have to do the same with my 800GTO.

Blow out the cooler with compressed air, maybe clogged and causing heat issues in intensive 3D apps

Try disabling VPU recover, i always do because it tends to mess more things up then fix them and have never run into a problem with it disabled.

Okay i've turned off VPU recovery, thought it fixed it cause no lockups for 10-15 mins but then it died again

I decided to underclock it again with all the changes i've made and so far 2-3 hours gaming with no crashes:)

Watch this space though;)

Big thanks to all the posters + especially like the compressed air idea, that is something on my to-buy list now

If underclocking your card helped, i would bet that something is up with the cooling of the card... get downtown and buy a can of compressed air!!
