I'm just getting involved with this water cooling stuff and have a couple of questions if you please?

AMD 1.4 Ghz
ATCS Case
Z4 Intercooler Kit w/ 12X5 Rad/2X120mm fans
Biostar M7VIB motherboard

I replaced a dragon orb cpu fan with the Z4 (cpufx.com) and the cpu temp appeared to remain about the same according to the on board temp probe @60C. I took a probe from a Digital Doc 5 kit and placed it on the top of the cpu (under the waterblock) to the side of the thermal square (?) using thermal tape to ensure contact with the top of the cpu, it reads about 47c.

1. Is the position I placed the DD5 probe an acceptable place for the probe?

2. Do both temps appear to be accurate, onboard under cpu and DD5 on top?

3. Does the thermal square on top of the cpu get physically hotter than the cpu body or is it simply a place to conduct the heat transfer from?

4. Should I have gotten a significant drop with the water cooler?

5. What is an acceptable heat range for a cpu?
Ambient air vs cpu temp or
Straight up temp range.

6. What are the winning numbers to the Texas State Lottery for November 24, 2001? (Prior to November 24, 2001 please)

Sorry, but I did warn you in the subject line.

Thanks

1. Yes, assuming you use some sort of thermal grease to make sure it contacts the side of the core (that's the square in the middle). the DD5 probe will tend to read a little low, the socket probe will tend to read anything it feels like (well it'll probably be a bit high in a w/c setup).

2. They seem high but as both correlate somewhat they're probably fairly close.

3. The "thermal square" is in fact the entire cpu, usually called the core, the rest of the package is just to allow enough space for the pins. As it is the entire cpu, the core generates all of the heat.

4. Yes, check your water temps, if they are relatively low it's a mounting problem. If they are high it's a water system problem.

5. Below 50C is good, Above 60C is very bad.

6. If I told you that I wouldn't win all the cash, nyah!

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!

those temps should be accurate but are TOO hot

you should get in the 30c' with watercooling

we need to know your gph of your pump

there little square on the cpu is called a "die"

its will get super hot, much hotter thin the cpu body

make sure you have good contact and that you use Artic Silver 2 or any other thurmal past between the the die and the waterblock

Temp parameters

Room 25C
Water 28C
DD5 Probe 47C
Onboard Probe 67C

2 internal pumps rated at 145 GPH.

I used Artic Silver II and follow the instruction at their site to the letter.

Thanks

those temps are still too high

feel your waterblock to see if its warm if so your making good contact with the cpu if its not you need to reseat the block

do you have any bubbles in your system? if so you need to get rid of all of thim

make sure you dont have any kinked lines and that the water isnt restricted

make sure nothing is inbetween the cpu and waterblock and that the water block is fitted properly
