I have a problem with my recently reinstalled computer, Direct3d does not work in any game. The game runs I can hear all the usual sounds but I just get a blank screen. UT2004 will run but only in safe mode without Direct3D.
This is starting to drive me loony as I cannot work out what is wrong, the reinstall was prompted by the upgrade of board and chip. (32bit to 64bit, but OS still XP 32bit)

Troubleshooting / Checking so far
DXDiag passes all tests, Direct3D is enabled.
Reinstalled Nvidia drivers, 81.21 / 91.31
Installed the latest version of DirectX
Tried various games, same result

Hardware
AsRock 939X-AM M/Board
64 Bit AMD CPU 3500
Nvidia 5700 ultra
1Gb Geil Dual Channel RAM
40Gb System drive
200Gb Data Drive

I had the same problem after a repair install.
I gave up, and finally simply reinstalled windows.
Try another reformat? -- Backup what you need and try it fresh again?

Worked for me.

I was worried that I would have to do that, I was hoping there was some trick to get it working again, ah well. I was going to buy a new harddrive soon anyway :-)

Before you wipe, try uninstalling directX with this utility: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/DirectX-Eradicator-Download-2588.html

and then reinstall V9c

aarghh, DirectX Eradicator fails. It says it doesn't like my version of XP ????
I am buying a new hard drive this week anyway so looks like I will try the reinstall path
