View Full Version : When to get a bigger PSU?

I have an Antec 300 watt PSU now and have a lot hooked up to it and was wondering how I'd know when I needed a new PSU for SURE. I probably will get a 400 watt+ sometime soon, but if I really don't need it, I'll be more likely to wait.

I have an OCed 1.4 athlon (to 1.6), 2 60 mm 38 CFM Deltas (one on Thermalright SK-6 heatsink, the other on my video card), 6 80 mm case fans, CD-RW, floppy, 7200 RPM HD, GeForce 2 MX400, few PCIs.

I monitor my voltages (+12v, +5v, +3.3v, and vcore) regularly and they stay nearly identical to those values. I never see any "dragging down" as it were of any of them regardless of what I am doing.

I will go with Antec or Enermax for my larger PSU as they seem to be industry standard. Any thoughts on this too?

Thanks for any and all replies.

Welcome to OCers !!
Well, if you're not experiencing any probs or drops in voltage....sure, wait. That is assuming you'll not be adding more power hungry hardware of course :D

And by the way...ya really shouldn't double post. It gets kinda crowded :)

Hey, why do ya need a Delta screamer on the Vid ??

I put the Delta on my video card because it was getting way too hot and instead of buying the Blue Orb, I had the Delta sitting around from my old heatsink (GlobalWin WBK38). I stuck some double-sided tabs to hang things on the wall to the heatsink and pressed the fan against it. I got a really good attachment. I can't even tell the noise increase since my current setup was loud already. It cools it really, really well too, as expected with that much power.

I removed the double post too. I posted it accidentally in another forum and I wanted it in here instead not realizing I couldn't delete it. I did though, so now it's only in here.

Yeah, i'll bet it keeps it really cool :D

I guess 2 screamers wouldn't make it twice as loud, just probably more pervasive ;)
