I recently got a Logitech G5, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to map any of the scroll wheel functions (pan left/right, middle mouse) to a game. I have used the Logitech Setpoint software to map these functions to generic mouse buttons, and I even tried mapping to keystrokes. The mapping only half-works in that I can assign these buttons in the "Controls" menu of games, but when I actually go to use the buttons during gameplay, they are unresponsive. This is very, very disappointing since the mouse only has 1 side button and I need MORE buttons on the mouse! A $50 mouse should have more than 3 working buttons in games!
Here is an example of what I have done and how it failed. I used the Setpoint software to assign the scroll wheel "pan left" (physical action) to the middle mouse, i.e. Mouse 3, functionality for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. I start up the game, go to the Controls menu, and I try to assign the "Zoom" in-game action to the newly-mapped button. When I press the scroll wheel to the left, it successfuly assigns "Mouse 3" to the "Zoom" in-game action. However, while I am playing, using the scroll wheel doesn't do anything. I tried the mapping again, but this time assigning a single keystroke ("z") to the scroll wheel pan left action. Again, I can successfully assign the in-game action to this mouse function in the menu, but during the gameplay it is unresponsive. What gives?
