I have an AMD k6 300..
Running with 256 ram
An ATI 32 Rage Fury Pro
30 gig HD
SB 16
Asus p5A-B mobo

I have read alot on this website.. All the beginner faq-s everything I can get my hands on that will tell me how to overclock my CPU... I read about this "multiplier" but I do not understand what it is and how I can get to it.... I would like to speed up my computer's speed to it's potential.. I just need a little help..

First you usually oc a chip by changing it's values in the bios. I'm young so I haven't had any experience with the "older" chips but I'd guess that in your case you'd probably have to move some jumpers around to do it. Go into your bios and see if you can change the fsb or multiplier. If that doesn't work you'll most likely have to change some jumpers.

I have gone to the Asus website and looked at the jumpers.. Unfortenatley that has not worked... :(

The multiplier is the number that is multiplied by your bus speed to get your CPU speed.

What this means is that, if your mobo is running a front-side-bus (fsb) of 66 MHz, then your multiplier must be set at 4.5 to give you a cpu speed of 300 MHz.

In order to increase your multiplier, say to 5 to give you a cpu clock speed of 330 MHZ, you need to do some changes. I'm not familiar with your mobo, but usually you need to change one or both of two things. So check your mobo manual and see which one of these applies to you (you may have to do both):

1. Change some jumpers on the motherboard to go from a multiplier of 4.5 to 5.0

2. Go into your bios and change the multiplier in there.

If your system can do either of these, then you're on your way to oc heaven. You can keep raising the multiplier until your system gets unstable, then back off. BUT, beware of your temperatures. You can burn your cpu and sometimes other components when ocing.

Another way to oc is by changing the fsb. Raising your fsb oc's all the components in your computer, so its usually the preferred method. But since you didn't ask about this, I assume you already know about it. In case you don't, the procedure is very similar to changing the multiplier.

Final word, as I said, I don't know your mobo, so it may be possible that it is not capable of ocing. In this case, my condolences :(

Hope this helps.

You change it either in BIOS, or on you're mobo as prior stated. since I'm not familiar with you're mobo I can't help you, but check the manufacturers web site for tech. specs.
