Tweaking tips and disabling not needed plz

Got XP Pro running and love it but I notice that people are mentioning that you can tweak it and also disable some background things to let it perform better.

How can I get rid of MSN messenger from loading for one?

Second what are some things I can do to tweak it a bit to perform better or just lean it out. I am having no probs with it but if I can lean it out all the better!!

I am not that knowledgeable going into the registry but with a good explanation and some guidance from you guys out there I am sure I can do it no prob....

This site has specific info on allowing XP users to disable Messenger. One of the tips will allow you to uninstall many Windows apps for which the uninstall in usually hidden.

The method is to first make the uninstall visible and then pick those you might not want. Messenger is the only one I uninstalled.
