I am building a computer for my parents and I want all the software to be legit on there, so I am buying a new copy of Windows XP Home. I would normally go from Newegg or ZZF, but I found this place. Do you think it is legit?

Also, if it is, should I save 20 bucks and buy a copy with SP1 and just upgrade when I get it installed?

I took some classes this summer and was able to get MS office 2003 FREE, and Windows XP Pro w/ 64 server ed. for $4.95. Microsoft has a deal with most universities to cut costs for students... throw down and pick up an art appreciation class at your nearest community college!! :)

I've bought from #9 software (http://www.9software.com/category_s/16.htm) before and had no problems with my copies of XP Pro (license only, which they can no longer sell) and Win2K Pro. No problems with activation or that stupid genuine advantage validation crap that M$ has started recently and the disc looks to be genuine too. You can save a little money over Newegg's prices, especially if you don't mind getting the original or SP1 version and then updating to SP2.
Unlike you school guys, I have no access to educational copies of M$'s software. So I have to look around for best prices for my legal copies.:(

Thanks for the link muddocktor. I will probably go there.
As for getting a copy from a college or university, it would be a bit hard. I am only a sophomore in high school. :(

All that means is that no one has reported any experience with them, like I was saying they are new. I did read somewhere people had good things to say about them, I can't remember where that was however.

Go to your nearest college campus. Go to their software / book store. Buy Windows for $40 or less. They have NEVER asked for my student ID and secondly, just be like... oh I forgot it. I'll leave the moral decision to you, this is just my experience.
EDIT: And dont resell: thats a big no-no and you can get in lots of trouble because I beleive MS knows which CD key sets go where
XP pro is $300 at my university.

Im gonna go look at the local university here, and if needed give some college kid a few bucks to buy me one if the price is right.

Picked up my XP PRo at UTD last night for like $20 or $25. Had the 64Bit version included. Bought one from the DCCCD Campus (Junior College) for like under $18.00 shipped and got to download another copy too.... Got a copy of server2003 Enterprise for Free too... All Legit. Go to Microsoft and do a search for MSDN Academic Alliance. Then do the school lookup. Enroll at a junior college for a PE class (<$50) Get your ID and get copies of what you want.

Are you serious? That's not what the person reported, he reported getting a warez copy of Windows XP. Does that mean thats exactly what happened? Hard to say, but I wouldn't buy from them.

Np. I kept hearing from people here to get it at your school. I was like man, I am back in the community college after a 10yr hiatus from school. Surfed the microsoft website. Sent an email and get my access. Got XP Pro CDs sent (32/64bit) via USPS and then downloaded a copy of each, and also Server 2003. (woot). Then I graduated and went to the university and bought a XP Pro CD (32 and 64bit) for like 20 or 25 and Office 2003 for 30. Office 03 includes Enterprise edition. What ever that means. I actually have uses for the XP 64bit. I just need more drivers etc to be written for it.

I am finally getting to ordering and I have a question.
What is the difference between this (http://www.9software.com/Windows_XP_Professional_OEM_p/winxpprooem.htm) version and this (http://www.9software.com/Windows_XP_Professional_CD_p/winxpprocd.htm) version?

^^ Anybody? I would really love to save 40 bucks if there is no difference.
Looks like they are both the same thing except that the $95 doesn't come w/a manual and no sticker w/product key to stick on your PC :) (although it does come w/a product key as you can tell from the description)
$95 Version:
Full Version CD. Includes CD-ROM, EULA License, Product Key, and Manual on CD. CD-only version.
Product cannot be returned due to activation process.
$135 Version:
Full Version OEM. Includes CD-ROM, License, COA (Certificate of Authenticity), and Manual
Product cannot be returned due to activation process.

I ordered "Windows XP Home with SP 2 Hologram" what I got was a low quality hologram CD alone in a white cd-slieve. On the outside of the slieve was a white sticker that had the "Product Key" on it. No certificate of authenticity was supplied
Am I missing something? Is everybody reading the same thing I'm reading?

Yes and no. That quote was from the first site that I orginally posted about. The thing I am worried about is that the $90 version from this other site does not contain a certificate of authenticity.

Never heard of this company as they do seem legit, but how does this work eh? XP Pro without COA?
