View Full Version : Checking out individuals before buying

Found an interesting thing tonight while trying to figure if I'd been screwed on a recent deal.

If you're dealing with an individual and have that person's phone number (you really should, and should talk to him/her), then go to this place (http://www.reversephonedirectory.com/) to confirm that the address and the phone number match. There is even a business listing, too.

I think this could come in quite useful, especially since I travel very much and can... "drop in" on anyone who may scam me since I have the address and even driving directions from this site. :D

Don't know if it works on all numbers, but try it out.

yeah, i'ved used it a couple a times to find certain people. its kind of creepy, how easy it is to get someone's personal information these days.

My number is unlisted and it shows up. Strange, and not liked! It will be scary when some one makes a nifty page that can get info on cell phone numbers, and even their current location! Cool, but scary!

That is so NOT cool. An unlisted number should never be posted on something like this. sometimes i would like to talk to people BEFORE thinking about giving address.. I guess the phones out too :(

I keep as much personal information away from the internet as possible.

I've heard of a few cases where personal infromation finds it's way onto the internet somehow. There are ways to get pretty much anyones informaiton, it's just a matter of how hard you want to look for it.

Technology is really killing privacy.

this is all very disturbing... there's even links to look up personal information on someone... last known addresses, possible alias's, marriages, etc. you just need a last name and approx age... this costs money. kinda like hiring a private decetive online. i'm dissapointed at the direction this world is going with privacy issues. im not going to be surprised when all cellphones are required by law to ship with an internal GPS... if it hasn't happened already (illegally)

If you think that's scary think about what access the Government and Feds have to your personal info. I saw a program on TV about how antiquated the FBI's and other Governmental agencies computer systems are. That may be true, but like you and me, they DO have access to the interenet along with all their in house Government data bases.

One thread said they had an unlisted number and it was there for all to see. Now that REALLY sucks. And what with things the way they are you can only expect it to get worse.

What really runs me hot is some sites planting spy ware on my HDD without my permission and without me knowing it. Darn it, this is MY computer bought and paid for by ME and NOBODY has any right installing ANYTHING on it without my permission. To me it is clearly cyber stalking and an invasion of my personal privacy. What right do they have to follow me around the web then report where I went and what I looked at? I use spybot or adaware every day and wipe them suckers out, but it still ticks me off.

Old working stiff, senior citizen here, so gotta' do my morning stretch and get these old bones in gear and get ready for work. Ya'll have a great week end. OldBird

i tried it for my number, and it gave me the wrong city, so i tried it again, and it gave me another wrong city. it might just be that they got mixed up or something, but most of the othe r phone numbers i tried worked

yeah, the gov't ment uses a program called "carnivore" to track peoples keystrokes and e-mail and everything. Even when u enter a password on the screen and it it asterikes it still gives the gov't the actually characters used for the password!

For those of you that have unlisted numbers showing up on the site:

I don't know about where you live, but where I live, there is a difference between "nonpublished" and "unlisted" numbers. For instance, an "unlisted" number will not be found in the phone book, but can be found by calling 411, however, a "nonpublished" number cannot be found either way.

You got it Jon, that carnivore is one mean piece of software, and if you think Big Brother ain't watchin' you, . . . think again. Remember 9-11 where they retrieved e mails between terrorists a year old, so they were stored *somewhere* . . . .

Man oh man, think how many e mails are sent every day, and how big would a HD have to be to store all the e mails sent worldwide for a whole year? We think our 200Gig HD's are big and our OC'd computers are fast, but ours ain't a rain drop in a mill pond compared to what Big Brother has. Guy in another forum was talking about carnivore and enough to scare the daylights out of you.
