Ok, this is a really out-of-the-blue idea that might cause flaming, but I'm ready for it.
Lets start talking about the DS Homebrew Community. There's alot out there, but alot is limited by the DS's 4MB RAM.
Now on to Notebook RAM: What stick can take the least Volts, amps, and all that other electrical stuff?
Back to the Nintendo DS: Is there a way to hardwire notebook RAM to the DS's mainboard that would involve opening it up?
Because if this is feasible, this would rock.
Note how i said "and all that other electrical stuff." I barely belong in this topic, since i know next to nothing about electronics, but i really want to learn, and i really want to do this. Now this RAM would probably need an external power source, but i wanted to know what everyone in the OC Community thought.

well most likely its sodered on board to the ds, so I would say its damn near impossible for the average person to add more memory to the DS

What i'd think of is a flash cart. External flash memory that doesn't require power to store memory. It could probably be written to from the GBA slot of the DS, so it wouldn't be a huge extension of the DS slot.

Solidsnake, i don't totally appreciate your sarcasm, but i was expecting it.
As i was expecting a reply like what dicecca112 wrote.
Simply saying its not feasible or the "the ends wouldn't something the means" would have sufficed perfectly. Admin, close and or delete this thread please.

as far as i know, if it would work that easy, you'd have to find the ram chip, find one with the same package and pinout of it, with a higher capacity and same r/w instructions and all that crazy stuff, then swap them out, and have to modify the bios of the ds, and the OS so that it will use more ram, and then make software that would use the ram.

What sarcasm... That was a serious post. I suggested using an external flash cart in the GBA slot as an extension to the DS's internal 4MB memory.

is the flash memory fast like the ram tho? i think thats what he was getting at, not enough system ram for running processes.

You know, I wasn't thinking of that...
You could always get a cart with RAM and not flash memory as well... however you'd lose data on it when you cut power, however, you could probably put a battery on there to keep it powered.

do you not lose system ram when you cut the power?
im not sure how the IF between the ds and its carts is, if it was fast enough it might actually be possible to put ram in there, but still need modified fw and os to use it.

well, Nintendo is making a RAM expansion through the GBA slot, but i have a GBA flashcart which can run various homebrew apps / ROMS. So if you see the conflict: I can't have my Supercard SD in Slot-2 AND have the RAM Expansion there at the same time.
And the only thing that i know is that you can only read/write to slot 2 either 8-bit or 16-bit, but there's some exception to the 16-bit thing. As for the firmware, if this is possible, someone will probably write it up and be v8 for Flashme.

Ah, sorry about that. I didn't know they were making an expansion.
