*UPDATED with Super PI test*
Hey guys,
So I finally got done testing and working this thing.
Dual prime stable 12.25 hours
Stats:
e6600 - FSB 322 x 9 = 2.90 gigs
Vcore: 1.375
Vdimm: 1.95
Temps: (Dual Prime temps)
57C at load
41C at idle
Obviously the PCI locked at 33 and PCIE at 100
DRAM was set to DDR2 800 in BIOS. Anytime I tried to change this setting while OC'ing to reduce the speed of the ram to match around 800 it would die. So if you had this at stock speeds, the setting would be DDR2 800...Obviously its not that now.
Stock speed results for comparision.
CPUmark: 7665.3
3dmark03: 24549
3dmark05: 11116
3dmark06: 6138
PCmark05 - CPU score: 2044
NEW Oc'ed scores :D
CPUmark: 11208.0 (31.6% Increase)
3dmark03: 25517 (3.8% Increase)
3dmark05: 11386 (2.4% Increase)
3dmark06: 6332 (3.1% Increase)
PCmark05 - CPU score: 2453 (16.7% Increase)
Not too bad... Now I could really use some assistance locating a good Nvidia overclocking program for the graphics card. I used ATI-tool forever, but now that I am using Nvidia...is there a tool thats as easy to use as that for Nvidia?
Let me know what you guys think and I would love some feedback so I can possibly increase the overclock :D
Here are my results

That's just oc'ing the cpu. I have yet to move on to the graphics card

hm, have you tried going 333x9 yet?

just 18s? doesn't the e6600 do 20s stock?

looking good so far, is that as high as you've tried to push it so far? It'd be nice to see you hit at least 3.2ghz stable with that. What kind of cooling are you using on the proc?
As far as ocing the vid card, I would recommend getting coolbits and setting the clocks through the control panel and then checking them with rthdribl.

I havent tried 333 x 9. I can't get it to go much higher. I am wondering if its something to do with the ram timing. I cant seem to changed the DDR2 setting any without it not working.
If you guys have a working knowledge of this motherboard and my setup...Please by all means help me. I want to get this going even higher...but I think there must be something in my BIOS that is screwing this up. Please assist me with how to setup this BIOS better if you know this board.

you may do some looking around on xtremesystems to see what they are doing with their setups while you wait for someone with more insight to help you out here (I have no experience with the PB5 unfortunatly)...
Do you have the new bios for the P5B Del? Saw a few threads at XS about it, and it looks like Asus really did a good job on it.
Defintely check around other threads with that board, theres often a ton of stuff that needs to be disabled in order to get a good OC.
Is it just me though, or is that PCmark05 really off?
The SuperPI 1 meg is about right from other E6600's I've seen at 3ghz usually doing 16's.

what bio's do you have on the board.. the guys at XS are having good luck with 0507 last time I checked.

try dropping the ram timings to 1:1 as I remember reading the dividers don't work properly which may be limiting your clock, I've only run my board at a 1:1 setting and havn't had any issues. I'd give that a shot, and btw the temp settings on my board are way off, it showed 63c under load with a 6300 under water which isn't anywhere near close to right. I'd also try lowering the multi and see if you have the same fsb wall.
edit: in that validation you're running your ram at 483, with a 2:3 divider which may be limiting you if you try to go higher and your ram can't handle it

What is in the BIOS to change the mutliplier and also where is the divider? All it shows is DDr2 533, 800, 1066...nothing about ratios.
toddm27
08-20-06, 08:27 PM
ok, the multiplier is under cpu options the first option at the very top, and the divider is under the overclocking options, listed as memory freq I think, listed starting with auto(don't use) double fsb(1:1) should be the first option, try it and see if you'll clock any better
beau_safken
08-20-06, 08:36 PM
ok so think i should turn the muliplier down to x8 and try the 1:1?
1:1 is the DDR2533 option?
toddm27
08-20-06, 08:44 PM
I'd start by just running it 1:1, I don't remeber it saying 533 but maybe before overclocking it at all, but once you change the fsb it will show double fsb and see if your clocks get better, if not then try dropping the multi
toddm27
08-20-06, 08:47 PM
another thing is once you adjust the fsb to say 350, the mem freq will reflect the new fsb and show actual speeds the memory will be running at with the divider options

what kinda cooling are you using?? Ninja?? if so, what kinda fan??
beau_safken
08-20-06, 09:21 PM
Using the ninja with the fan that came with it.
Its right next to my 120mm exhaust fan out the back so its sucking air off the back half of the ninja with that small 120mm fan they include with the heatsink.

I pretty much hit the wall. 320 FSB seems to be the max. Turned the Vcore up, turned the mutiplier down, 1:1 on the ram...nothing. i wonder... The NBcore was set to auto...should I be setting that to 1.65? Think that might be a issue with this?

Look into maxing the MCH voltage and disabling hyperpath 3....... just advice I see all the time for the Asus boards. What extra cooling you have on the NB? Did you remove it and clean the factory TIM?

did you turn off hyperpath 3 on the chipset settings?

1. Where is this Hyperpath 3 setting anyway? I can't find this in the BIOS anywhere.
2. MCH, what is that?
3. Yes, I took off the factory pads and reapplied with AS5. I also removed the stupid glued on metal covers from the NB sink.
It might not be an option on the P5B Deluxe. If it is, it should be under chipset settings...which is also where you will find the MCH voltage.

hyperpath 3 isn't on the p5b board, and just try upping the fsb to 350, with 1.4v, auto on everything else, there were some guys having issues similar on xs with the ds3 and jumping the fsb helped
beau_safken
08-21-06, 01:30 PM
Ok so jump to 350 FSB, 1:1, 9 multi?
1.4 vcore might be a little much for my setup right now. I need to upgrade the fan for the ninja before going much over 1.375. Im seeing load temps peaking at 58C while dual priming.
Whats the deal? The higher fbs just seems to work?

MCH = Northbridge. up the MCH voltage might (most likely) help in your case.
Hyperpath3 should be under the memory setting where you set your memory timing manually I believe.....
good luck and hope you can do more than 3ghz on air!! honestly, I'm a bit disappointed w/ <3ghz o/c on air....
Download superpi mod 1.5 from xtremesystems. That way it records all the way out to hundreths of a second. My e6600 takes 1.51V to runnig at 370x9 on my p5w-dh.

I'll try that when I get home tonight. I am curious if my rig made it thru the dual prime from last night. Ok so that hyperpath was in the memory....I was thinking it was CPU. I'll jack up the northbridge also, see what happens.
Hyperpath is NOT exist in P5B Deluxe, only in P5W DH

Ok so either way, jack the northbridge volts to max and try upping the fsb again.

the temps on this board are not accurate, mine under water show 63c, which is not possible with a bix3 radiator with 3 deltas, and a storm g4, you might download core temp and see what it shows, mine was off from core temp over 10c(higher on p5b)
beau_safken
08-21-06, 04:05 PM
Ok i'll check into that. Those temps at 57-58C were getting me a lot of worry.
It's nice asking these questions at work, so I can make some checklists for when I get home :D
push it further 3.3GHz is a aceptable OC 2.9ghz isnt much

Acceptable or not, if thats all she has...thats all she has. I'm dual priming right now and ill see when i get home if that MCH voltage to 1.65 helped.
