im planning on moving over to intel again after just making the switch to amd. I plan to use the following of the stuff i already have .

cpu- Still deciding
mobo- Still deciding
ram- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231065 (just got it in the mail and thought it was a good choice ova ocz since they seem to have alot of compatiblilty issue's and doa problems)
hdd- 2x 36gb raptors and a random 160 gb sata hdd
video card- xfx 7900gt
optical- Plextor PX-760a

Right now i am still thinking of what mobo i should get. It is mostly between p5b deluxe, p5w dh deluxe and a DS3. And i am still thinking of what cpu i should get. From what i seen a e6400 seems the way to go but i want to know if there is a big preformance difference between a e6400 and a e6600? i can afford both but i don't want to purchase something for $100+ more for a slight difference in preformance. So i am looking for some recommandations.

I just got a p5w dh deluxe, because all reviews sound good. I also gave in and got a conroe 6700. I bought the same raptor setup you have, but I also bought a 150 as well.

how can you not admit that, it's not worth the money, but I love upgrading. The best is when people try and justify spending the money.

HAH! my long term GF is not impressed with the e6300/e6400 i have planned at the end of the month. she still shakes her head at me about the x800pro i bought when they first came out! meanwhile i say nothing about her wanting a $2000 tiffany lamp. like HELLO, i got a lamp right here, does the same job, it cost me $10 at walmart. :p gotta love girls :)

estate auctions, Grama got her tiffany for like $20 :p
but.. she gets alot of other things at the same time.. got room for a antiuqe piano?

P5B-Deluxe.. you could most likely get a E6300 with that motherboard depending on your goals.. the FSB is crazy fast.. Im still debating the E6400 (frequency goals are set too high.. its really my falt) or E6600 myself for the same reasons.. there is a performance differance, how slight is qanitative there are a few reviews out there about that.

And as far as features.. and ease of upgrading.. Id rather have the P5B-Deluxe.. it has pimp power reg for quad core action later, downward mem dividers in case you want to get 4gigs of cheaper ram for the vista monster and the new games that will make CRYSIS look like cake soon down the road. And.. It can do Matrix raid. :)

There is a performance difference in some apps, especially games, because the E6600 and above have 4M cache where as the E6300 and E6400 only have 2M cache. Is it enough to justify the extra cost? Dunno, that is something you'll have to decide for yourself.

For a mobo, if you end up going with a Conroe (6600 and up) opt for the P5W DH if you can afford it. For an Allendale, you should only consider the P5B Deluxe and Gigabyte DS3. (My preference is towards the P5B)

p5b deluxe doesn't oc well with e6600 or better?

Why for the E6600?

Should work fine. The P5W would perform a bit better clock-for-clock though.
