View Full Version : How do you get a window to permanently open as a certain size?

I remember a trick posted a good while back about how if a certain program (in this case Firefox) was opening new windows in the wrong size, you could hold alt and click the X and it would resize all future windows, but that isn't working.
I'd like it whenever I open a new window for it to have it automatically maximized, anyone know how to do this?

By default it will open the same size as it was the last time. Providing that you, instead of clicking the "X" to close, you Click "File"=>"Close (or exit). So take the window off of maximize, then drag the corners to fill the screen, then close it with File -> Close.
No trick, just Windows.

That didn't work, it's still opening at this annoying size. I tried both File->Close Window and File->Exit.

Open Firefox | Right click any link, and select "Open Link in New Window" | Go back to the first window you opened, and close it | Return to the second window, and manually drag it to fill the screen (Don't use the maximize button) | Close this second window using the close box. All Firefox windows should now open maximized.
You could also try closing all windows except the one that opens "minimized" | Right click on your Task Bar (in an open space)-->select "Tile Windows Horizontally" and Firefox will maximize | Close Firefox | Re-open Firefox... and new windows should open maximized.
Or remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the taskbar and while the window is maximized, resize the taskbar then return it to the desired size... this is to try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

All right, I tried all 3 of those and none of them worked. Could my Firefox be bugged or something?
