I'd buy it if I had the money, lol. Brand name is Planar.

that's not HD. This isn't a bad deal for 1080i I don't think. The specs aren't bad, and it has built in analog and digital tuners. The only hang-up I'd have is the brand obviously.

sence when has 1,366 x 768 not been hd? That sound like 1080i on costco's sceptre to me...

edit: direct from the costco website linked, "Signal Compatibility: 480i (SDTV), 480 P (EDTV), 720P (HDTV), 1080i (HDTV)"

1080i is 1920x1080, 720p is 1280x720. That TV does SUPPORT 1080i, as in it will display it, but it won't display all the pixels. It will scale the original 1920x1080 image down to its native resolution, so you lose detail. To see every pixel of a 1080i image, you need a tv with 1920x1080 resolution or higher. Actually though I think Westinghouse makes a decent 1080i LCD that's pretty cheap, but doesn't have built-in tuners. So this really isn't a very good deal after all.

Here's a link about HD resolution

You are right that it is downscaled but it is still HD. If you are getting a 1920x1050 HD for 1080i content then you must be on crack especially at that price. If you want a 1920x1050 HDTV then you can get a different sceptre (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112174) for less then that, and it also supports 1080p on top of 1080i.

Edit: LOL no one (http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=675268) has bought that tv so apparently you are the only person who thinks it's a good deal. Are you just trying to get us to buy this so it does not show up in the next woot off?

Planar 37 inch Widescreen 1080p High Definition LCD TV
$1,699.99+ $5 shipping

this is not 1080i but a 1080p which is the best you can get now. Nothing on the market (broadcast) is good enough for this resolution right now. it is a good deal if you don't want to get a DLP tv but i really don't know about planar...

edit: what screen are we talking about? am i on right woot?

If it costs over $1000 i cant make the decision in a day. Not to mention its an off brand. I also like to see a tv "in person" before i purchase it, to see what ill actually be looking at. Warranty is only one year, for a $2000 TV that seems short. Woot is all about cheap affordable items that you might not need but wont regret spending $10-50 on. Not lame $2000 TVs and Projectors no one wants.

1080i and 1080p are the same resolution, the difference is with 1080p all lines of the image are drawn simultaniously, wheras with 1080i the odd lines are drawn with one the screen refresh, and the even lines are drawn on the next screen refresh. This is to save bandwidth.

And yeah, even if this isn't a bad price for a decent TV, it's nothing near the kind of deals you can usually get on Woot, and if they want people to pull the trigger they need to get something that people want, and that's a really good deal. Maybe they just said screw it and put up a crappy item so that they could take the day off.

Id like you to try to tell the difference between 720p and 1080i. Its damn hard. 720p is hd and its ridiculous to argue otherwise. They dont make lcd's and plasmas at 1080i anymore. Its either 720p or 1080p now.

I'd take 1080i before 720p though...at least for large televisions. It likely wouldnt matter much with a tv below 40", but the resolution difference would be noticed on something bigger.

I mean, can't you tell the difference between playing a game at 1024*768 and playing at 1600*1200?

At reasonable viewing distance, even on a 50'' its hard to tell the difference. Comparing two different resolutions isnt the same as comparing a progressive vs interlaced one.

i tried it on mine, running the 720p and 1080p video from windows media, could not tell the difference unless you are sitting 1 feet away from the screen, BTW got my TV for $1400 included 4 year extended warranty.

Public HD broadcasts and 4DTV C-band SAT (8 foot dish min. recomend) are the reliable sorces of actual 1080p content.
Unless you can find one of those new fangagled HD-DVD or Blue-ray DVD players (and I'm not sure thats 1080p)
Once you don't have compressed content on Ku-band SAT and cable.. I dont see the point in investing in 1080p res screens just yet.

All the OTA HD channels I've heard about are 720p/1080i. I dont think there is enough bandwidth to transmit 1080p OTA.
There is one reason to invest in a 1080p tv.....using a 42'' lcd at 1920x1080 as a computer moniter  I bought the Sceptre from Costco, $1600 shipped. Worth every penny.
Blu-ray, HD-DVD, and the PC are the only 1080p sources I know about.

1080i and 1080p are the same resolution. In a perfect world yes, but there current a few different bastardized 1080i resolutions (dumbed down to something lower, much lower even) and 1080P and 1080i is not compareable any longer imho. It seems most people even prefer 720P over 1080i if that offers you some frame of reference.

Definitely appreciate your deal finding efforts but i can't believe woot would post that TV at that outrageous price.

I wonder what it's native resolution is(?) because as i said before, 1080i doesn't always equal 1920x1080 (nowadays).
