CS Clan?

U guys in a CS clan? U guys wanna form a CS clan? I have Geocities site all ready to go, if you guys want one.

I can even have a dedicated server sharing the cable line for a short time.

i use to play CS and be in a clan..... but after beta 7.0 it becasme more the people with bandwith.... usually im on 56k seeing how nothing bigger is aviable for me to get where i live, so now i don't play CS over the internet anymore i only play over lan.

OK guys, here's the plan....

I'll get a website up, and hopefully get a hold of some message board software for it.

Then, we start having pracs. x2 a week sound good?

Then, when we have a good team, we'll sign up an the smallest ladder we can find. As soon as we top that ladder, we sign up on OGL. Fair?

I'll work on website over the next week. It won't be pretty, but it'l be there.

A few of the maps that definetly need to be included are Italy, Malitia, Dust, Dust2, Assault, Torn, Cobble, Aztec... Personally i would put in all but a few of the very unpopular maps.

I think the site needs some better graphics, something to tie it to overclockers.com. Talk to Speedj about using some of the ones he has made (he made all the ones for the forum), and maybe, if you ask real nice, he will make a banner just for us. Maybe take the logo from the forum and replace FORUMS with COUNTERSTRIKE CLAN.

Well, i talked to speedj, and he said its fine if we use any of his graphics, and also that he will do custom ones if we want. What do you guys think of my above sugestion using the forum logo, and then use the forum color scheme on the site aswell.

I think the clan tags should be simply [OC]. Last spring we had a attempt to start a clan and that was there tag. Some people even put that infront of there fourm name, i think they still have them and they would probably be interested. Thats just my $.02.

Also, i would say lose the ### background for the blue and black that we have here.

Rank 2 Is for Backups and casual members

Rank 3 is for our Match Team

Rank 4 Is ofr admin, like CO, XO, Ladder ADMIN, and Trainers(basicly our best players)

OK, I just checked the OGL rules, and we need at least 5 people, however I do not know what is the maximum is, and personally I would like to head straight for the big boys.

There are 196 teams on the OGL ladder, it's gonna be an uphill fight, but we can do it.

Well that was stressful.

I had to actualy go into the microsoft pagebuilder and edit the thing because page builder (geocities) wont let you add an invisable link. Basicly, now to update the page I have to go into pagebuilder instead of geocities, edit, then upload to my Geocities filemanager, overwriting the previous version.

You should try using the reformatted banner. It shoud get rid of the jagged edges, it would make it look much better

Those new set's of banners are formatted in the size requirement's of Yahoo, it would clean it up immensely, I would please ask that you use those. As for cs I have it, just never played it don't know how much help I would be for you guys. I don't mind doing some image editing and helping straighten things out for you tho :)

Unfortunately its not dedicated. If I can convince my mom that she needs a new computer, I could run dedicated on my P200 box. But thats probably not going to happen anytime soon.

hey not a problem and sorry its taking so long.... i actually have been wanting to put one up for a while but you guys just motivated me into doing it at first it won't have the admin mod on it (which enables map voting and other cool stuff) but eveantly i will get it up and running. Also if you need a ftp that computer has 2 80 gig western digtals in which i got for free :D and i can give you some of that if youd like.

im sorry guys i can't host the server...My cable provider is @home which is AT&T and they do not allow server hosting of anykind, i started the server last night and when i found the ip it was 192.168.1.104, which is a class C lan which means nobody but the people on the @home network can join it, sorry guys:(

check your ip... to see it in win 98 goto run and type ipconfig or winipconfig, if your on win2k or above goto command prompt and the type ipconfig, if it begins with 192 or 10 then yep you have the same problem

I know the router will assign the 192 IP's, but are we talking about my natural IP, cause that's a 204....

That webpage that I sent you to was hosted on my routered network. I too am a roadrunner user, it should not be a problem. Your router has a web based setup util that will show you what your IP Addy is.

Coincidentally did you change to the smaller size banners for the Clan site, the OC logo still look's terrible.

Natural IP is found out through your router. You will see it in your configuration page, you can get there by logging into your router through a webpage. Most are done via typing in 192.168.0.1 that is usually the default address of your router.

2)Host?
To do so for a webpage you will need a program to do so. I set up Apache *Which you can find at www.apache.org* on a Celly 800 running Win98se, I then made sure to install both Java and Perl upon it. I believe the Apache site will point you in the right direction to get these thing's. I set up the webpage using Frontpage and found out the default website directory in Apache and placed the appropriate files in there. So that is how that was done.

If you need more information please feel free to let me know and I will do what I can to help. I noticed that you have indeed changed the front logo to the proper image size, could you please do me the favor of fixing the one on the roster page as well ?

A hub would work just fine. I'm alowed up to 3 IP addresses w/ my cable access.

Don't use the IP address listed on the website for the server cuz that changed today-damn dynamic IP's-so use the IP name I listed above in you "add IP" of your game and it will forward you to the server.

Hey Dark you cant be as bad as I am. Yea its a competition but as long as your improving give it a try. Dont feel that your not good enough just get on the server some night when a few OCS are playing and see what you think. there are some good and not so good players and I fall into the latter category. I think the only reason they allow me to play is because its my server..LOL

my clan has 3 servers up 2 of which we rent ones in the USA and one is for our euro squad in the UK im a admin on the USA one and we are glad to say have it pretty nicly run with MANY custom maps which u can DL from our site www.c-s-e.net if u go to the site use IE or u might not see the site the way it was meant to look. if u want u guys are welcome to play there till u get ur server up and runing nicely again..

In case you dont see this in the clan forum. I gotta thank you guys for letting me play with you tonight. Its fun to play with ppl you know, even if its your first time playing the game, you dont get jerked around like some would. It gave me a chance to really know how to play the game and to learn the maps, at least those that were played. right now Im using jedinocheat along with disolution on the server. It seems to be working fairly well picking up some cheats. The best programs are the ones that the client has to have on his machine but those are a pain and nobody wants to download and have them on their machines. Why would a cheater have antcheat on his computer. Since we would like a few more players Ill keep what we have now so no one has to download anything before they join the server.

well, heres a new spray. Its pretty much like the old one, but its only the O/C part. Just stick both files in the CS directory, and make sure you dont go into player config after that.

Hey Truelyred it was nice to see ya there. I know how you feel-it gets really frustraiting to learn this game. I started playing it just late this past fall and had a huge learning curve. It really helps to get to know the maps and what I did was to hop in servers where no one was playing and jsut run around to get familiar with the maps.

Yea that clan that showed up was not on the up and up. When we had our little 4v4 scrimmage I would say that at least 85-90% of the time they would have won the round without any of them getting killed. Thats just not possible without cheating. When you have a firefight of 4 on 4 and your whole clan gets mowed down with little damage to the opposition you know there is somthing wrong.

Its such a damn shame that cheating is so damn rampant. It is nearly impossible to keep up with it even when you update the cheating software. Its this stupid game of cat and mouse of a detecting software and less than a week later a new cheat comes out that can circumvent it.

yes, I understand.I played this morning with a couple a germans and they allways seemed to know where I was .I did not get to shoot much ,they were on top of me that fast. they didn't know though that I can read german!! what I need is a place to go that has bots and no time limit, just so i can learn how to use all the weapons and tweak my settings to suit me. I play CS lots ,I am a pretty good player,I get blamed for cheating in certain servers and try to give everyone the benefit of a doubt.I have been banned from like 3 servers ,but you also gotta learn what to look for ,I mean if 4 people are all together and someone kills them all with HS that dont really mean they are cheating,but when someone kills 9-10 peeps in different locations with HS rounding the corner ,you need to watch and be suspicious.I really think cheating has gotton way out of hand and I cant wait for the new cs ,the files are suppose to be encrypted to make it harder to hack.I wanna play ,I have a really good ping to your server ,when is the best time to play and where is the server located???

One of the clan was nice enough to rent us a nice server for a couple of months but that may be up soon....Im gonna have to get employed full time here soon so I can help pay for the thing. I would say its just a bad or downed node between you and the server or net traffic,just try today and see what happens.

Well pretty much everyone above a recruit has a least some admin powers....If you can tell me what was said/done, by whom and anything else, I would be happy to try and resolve the situation. No one should be harassed by an OCS member while visiting our server. There are exceptions to this for people who are at first themselves rude and are causing problems. we've recently had a problem with the leadarship of the ocs clan, this has been delt with and a newly structured ocs clan is in the works, we are still functional, but getting back on our feet again, our former leader took the forums we had running down as he left... Now i dont blame anything on him as, legionared was a good person, and i have nothing against him. I believe in forgiving and forgetting things, and if he would like to in the future, perhaps reinstatement into the clan may be feasable for him...

and on another note legionared (the former clan leader) has started a DoD clan if cs is not your cup of tea then by all means check out his new DoD clan, i dont yet know if it will have the oc.com name on it though. That would be somthing to ask legi about..

In the console, just type "net_graph #". # being 0 for nothing, 1 for just fps, 2 for fps pings and a graph, or 3 just for fps and pings. Using net_graph 2 decreases your frame rates because of the computations for the graph, so 1 or 3 is best. Also, we wouldn't have that screen shot if your weren't AFK!!!!

The biggest limiting factor on a having a server is your upload speed......so if thats slow you won't have much luck. Can you post your upload speed?

I ran our first clan server on a 1500/300 Kbps cable line and it would start to lag at around 8-10 players even though I never clocked less than 270Kbps up. Cable is not very good for servers because its a shared line with everyone in your neighborhood. If you want a small server for you and your buds to kill each other on I would say go for it but as a public server your upload just isnt enough to play on without a bunch of lag.

The speed of the computer isnt a limiting factor except at map changes and then it really depends more on the memory and the access speed of the harddrive. Your ADSL line sounds pretty darn good with that 500Kb up and should run 10 people. Go for it and give her a try you can always adjust the number of people and use some pingbooster mods to get it so it wont lag.

This must be the longest thread in the forums, or close to it. The problem with my server is that it's limited by my CPU speed (K6-2 400), more than my internet connection. I just need more power, and more ram wouldn't hurt either. If you wanted blazing fast map changes, get a gig of ram and load the entire CS folder into a ramdrive. Yeehaw!
