I have been using Firefox for quite a long time now and I love it. However, just recently when i got my new Inspiron E1505 (when the dells 10 days of deals was running) I have been having a nagging problem.

Sometimes, when I go to some sites like gamespot to watch a game trailer or something the puzzle piece will show up that says "Click here to download plugin" as if i don't have windows media player installed. Obviously I do and I can get the same videos to play perfectly fine in internet explorer. If I do click the puzzle piece to see what firefox recommends to play the video, It will say plugin not found.

I don't really want to use IE to surf sites just to watch some WMP videos that SHOULD work on firefox.

Any ideas?

EDIT: forgot to say that this only happens with my laptop as well. My gaming rig below works perfectly normal playing videos in firefox.

Are you sure its not looking for flash player?

Well i know that gamespot.com uses WMP to play its videos if you select the "low-res mpeg" option. That's what it uses to play the videos if im on my desktop or using IE.

Besides, I already have macro flash installed on the laptop.

I'm now running windows media player 11 beta and its still doing it. However, with some sites, videos run fine, with others it says that it needs a plugin......im so lost.

Not to revive an old thread or anything...but I'm still having my problem and wondering if anyone has any other ideas.

Thanks in advance!

I think the VLC plugin for firefox will allow you to veiw mpegs and several other formats. download the VLC player from videolan.org and check the Firefox plugin box when you install it. I'm not entirely sure if it will do what I think it will; it might be for VLC's video streaming features

Hmm, looks promising, I'll download it and give it a try when I turn on my laptop. I'll post my results later.

Thanks for the help!

Just a little update: The VLC player worked wonders and the videos run perfectly now. Thanks a lot for the help! :)
