HDD acting alil different.

Earlier on today one of my drives started causing explorer to crash every time I open it or any file from it. Scanned it for virii, and did a check disk, nothing. I am getting ready to do a fresh install of Windows tomorrow setting it up on a different drive. This problem isn't happening on my OS drive, but is there a possibility that a fresh install can bring this problem to a halt?
