View Full Version : How to improve storm water blocks?
Has anyone drilled extra holes in their storm water block to give it more "jets" or has anyone made larger holes so more water goes into the little copper "cups"??

Um, have you even looked at the actual design of the storm? Each jet is produced by a precisely sized nozzle that extends into each cup a specific amount. The designer of the block (Cathar) has done extensive calculation and successive testing of different nozzle placements and cup size/densities over the past 2 or 3 years. The Swiftech storm is the best mix of performance and production cost.
A higher number of cups and nozzles so far has produced minimal gains while requiring a much more powerful pump. The Little River Storm G5 has a much higher cup total/density level and is only a few degrees better in performance when compared to the production Swiftech Storm.
If you drill any holes in the mid plate you will effectively ruin your block.

The only "improvement" I've made to any of my Swifty blocks ( have an Apogee and both revisions of the Storm) is to retap the housings to 9/16-18 and use DD hi-flo metal barbs.
The stock plastic barbs just made me nervous.

The plastic fittings do bend a little too much for me...and metal looks better as well ;)

Here is the Apogee with DD barbs installed.
I also replace the horrible button head allen screws with standard Phillips heads w/ collars so I can actually apply some torque when reassembling the block (had to check for swarf in the pin array you know).

How can't you torque hex-screws? That is, if you're using a hex bit and not an allen wrench... Allen wrenches BLOW.

Have Cathar do it!
I would say keep the block clean and get the powerful pump it craves(which you have) other then that there is no way you can improve on this design.
