I just got an Alpha PAL6035 HSF with a Sunon 27CFM fan on it to cool an AMD 1800 XP. Because I'm new to AMD processors, is this HSF going to be enough?

Price aside, would the Swiftech MCX426 be better at cooling my AMD 1800 XP?

The pal will prob do the trick, even with the 27cfm fan, MBM will prob report your temps as being in the upper 40's.

The 462 with a higher speed fan will bring ya down to lower temps

BTW- I suggested an sk6 with a sunon fan for a friend for his xp 1600 and it stays around 35c, up to 40c under heavy stress (as reported by MBM), and his computer is very quiet.

Hi GATTACA, welcome to the Forum,
I totally agree with JML, the best way to go is the ThermalRight SK6 with a Delta38, but the Swiftech 462 & the Alpha PAl8045 are really close, even if more expensive, but you must consider the totally different mounting system.
For more info take a look on the Home page about the Socket A/370 HeatSink Raccomendations.

The PAL 6035 is not adequate for cooling an XP 1800+, even with a Delta 38 on it. If you need to save a few bucks, you could select a Vantec CCK-6035D with a Delta 38 rather than a Thermalright SK-6. The Vantec CCK-6035D also features a steel SK7 clip that requires nothing but fingers to operate. No screwdriver and possible mainboard gouging is needed.
