ok i need to know how to let my buddies laptop see my home network. i'm dumb when it comes to this stuff and have always just used the xp wizard, however this laptop doesn't seem to have this option for some reason. any speedy help would be much apriciated. i need to pull a bunch of music off my desktop to this lappy for my wedding tommorow (my power cord broke on mine, which i was goin to use, this week)

What kind of router are you using and Windows xp i assume? Just plug the laptop into the router and run the network setup wizard and restart. Then share the music folder on your pc and look for it in "My Network Places" from the laptop.

i'm using a linksys wrt54g router and both pc's are using xp, home on the desktop and pro on the laptop. the prob is the laptop won't run the wizard because it says it belongs to a domain (this is his work laptop)

Don't run the wizard...it just makes a mess of everything.
you should be able to just plug it in and it will pick up the DHCP automatically...maybe push it along by running this in the command prompt:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

(this is his work laptop)There's the problem. I don't think you're going to be able to connect it to your home network due to the security settings. His employer probably rolled out Group Policy settings which means he has no admin privileges. In this case you won't be able to do much to override the security settings, which prevent it from connecting to a foreign network.
I know this because I have a work-provided laptop which simply cannot connect to my home network, even through a hard-wired connection to my router.
you should be able to just plug it in and it will pick up the DHCP automaticallySure, the router will see the laptop, assign it an IP, and it will be able to access the internet. This is not what the OP is asking, though.
