as for ram this Gskill 2gb kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231065 I JUST bought that for my e6600 setup.
ppl have been getting it up to around 1080-1100mhz... that means with a 2:3 divider... CPU:RAM... with ram at 1080 you could get 3.24ghz on ur cpu (360fsb) or @ ddr 1100 with a 2:3 you could pull off 3.30ghz...
OR a 4:5 divider... @ ddr 1080 with 4:5 you could do 3.89ghz... but i think with this ram to achieve a 3.4ghz you would run a 4:5 divider giving you a ddr ram speed of 945mhz <- WHICH is EASILY doable with this ram at better than stock timings.
AS FOR COOLING... i recommend a Thermalright Ultra 120... i have one sitting in front of me waiting to take a seat on top of my e6600... its an AWSOME heatsinks... one of the best IMO... to settle for n e thing less than a thermalright is well foolish... it beats out the ninja by a small margine..

I would get at least ddr2 800 ram. You can usually overclock the good ones to ddr2 1066 speeds or higher, plus you don't spend the extra money.

zactly go with the gskill HZ stuff... it will do 1066 no prob at pretty damn good timings... but on intel machines timings arnt as big of a factor as on an AMD machine...

u need cooling for the ram?
As long as you have adequate case ventilation, you won't need special cooling for the RAM. Like was said, the G. Skill "HZ" DDR2-800 is good overclocking stuff. The Mushkin eXtreme Performance DDR2-800 is also an excellent choice (although more expensive).
