I have a Visiontek Xtasy geforce2 mx400. There is a heatsink on the gpu, not a fan of any type. It is also PCI by the way. I want to overclock it but i dont know if I need to put a fan on it and take off the current heatsink? How do I take it off? What type of cooling should I use, I could use watercooling because I can make a waterblock in school. If I could figure out how to take the heatsink off I might just make a watercooler whether it will help or not because I need a project for engineering club.

There was a discussion about this here:

put it in an antistatic bag and pop it in the freezer for a few minutes (20-30), take it out and it *should* pop right off.

I'm gunna do that to my Radeon very soon.

Very easy I asume.

The heatsink has pins comin out on the other side..

And all you need to do is push together the sides of the end of the pin and let it slide through the little hole.

I would recommend a Blue Orb.. But just lap it before putting it on since it comes with a very un even surface.

I'd NOT reconmend the BLORB. The 3 piece construction is not a good way to remove the heat.. But, it will be a great deal better than stock cooling. I'd try some of the other, similar, designs, or use an old 486 HSF.

I picked up a Lasagna BGA cooler from Tennmax (http://www.tennmax.com) for $25. It's got a very smooth surface. I haven't put it on yet (I haven't hardly spent any time with my PC this week, but I have a long weekend ahead), but once I do, I'll give you a shout. Check them out. They're pretty good. I got mine for $24 shipped, and it was to me in less than a week.
