making a DVD out of an avi file?

Hey all, I'm trying to do just as the title says but I'm having a hell of a time.

I've downloaded tons of programs and they're either demo's with only 5 minutes of video or they just don't work. I need to convert a 30 minute avi file (I can convert it to mov or mpg) so it will play in a stand alone DVD player.

Anyone able to help?
