Ok,so how does win vnc work??

Hi Y'all, I installed WinVNC server in the loft,viewer on my media pc.But they won't talk:bang head ?It seems like I can't set names in Connectoin details window, then I get Cannot conect to server.I read the instructions,but still no joy. Can anyone suggest something,please?

your PC in the attic must have an numeric IP like 192.168.x.x. Connect to that IP. If it doesn't have an IP, set a static IP on both machines
