Kaspersky scans really slow?

I'm trying out the free version of Kaspersky. This thing scans my files incredibly slowly. Is it because I'm on the free version, or is that how it's supposed to be?

And to give you an idea of just how slow I'm talking, it took a couple days to get through 100,000 files.

system specs like velocity requested, and also how many processes you running in the background?

Sorry, I should have thought to include specs

p4 3.2 ghz ht, 1 gig ram

As for background processes, I run quite a few, but the only ones that really seem to hog resources are low priority, and even after shutting them down kaspersky didnt speed up. And norton was able to run through all these with almost no performance drop on anything, so I don't see why it should slow kaspersky down.

However, I did do a couple critical area scans that went much faster, but that was before taking the background hogs down.

Wow. I'd run it in safemode first, cause it sounds like there's something fishy going on with your comp resources.
Your machine is faster than mine by .2Gig with the same ram and it only takes about half an hour to scan both harddrives ~73,000 files.

Yea, since I posted my specs it did a 600000 file full system scan. Much better now. I find it odd though that I didn't get the speed right after I shut down the big resource hogs, but whatever, problem seems to be solved for now.

well i run kaspersky in my system's all 3 in my rig and do FULL system scans ever sunday, and they useually take maybe less than an 1 hour..

the first few tiems it runs it will go slower as it learns your pc and stuff.. it will get faster the more it scans.

Ok been testing it out. Its really slow when it comes to compressed or large files like iso. But its fast enough. I did a full systems scan and it took about 5 hours. Faster then mcafee and norton, and beat out avast and trend micro by 30min. And also found 3 viruses on my system. You know this is my new scanner!!!
