View Full Version : X1650 - When does it come out?
I know ATI has announced the X1650 pro, but when will it come out? I'm not really interested in speed ('upgrading' from a X700 non-pro), but the $99 price point and the fact that it has pixel clocks to run at 1366x768 resolution.

according to this (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=33128) it was supposed to be launched yesterday... However instead they are delaying it to sell more current products as is the case with the x1950 series. It in now scheduled for a September 14th launch ("http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/23/ati_unveils_x1300xt_x1650_pro/').

Don't bother with it, just get a X1600 XT and overclock it 10MHz core and memory and you have a full X1650 Pro... Yep that's all it is. Anyways a 7600 GS or 7600 GT is money better spent in my opinion, or the ATI equivelant cards.

Also I think that they are moving to a smaller fab, but that wont change the fact that the x1600 is crap. At this price point nVidia eats ATi's pants for lunch unless you can still find a x850xt at a decent price, like they were for a short time a few weeks ago.

Thats because the x1600 sucks so bad that they had to rename it becuase it was getting a-- ra--- by the 7600's.

The X1600 doesn't suck, it does quiet well. I have on in my work laptop and I'm supprised with it.

Except that the X1600XT is roughly $125 on Newegg. The new card is supposted to retail for $99. (A $25 difference, but I'm poor. :()

It may be fine for a laptop, or even the best choice for the price, in which your choices of graphics are very limited however for desktops price performance is what matters most and the x1600 does not deliver in that regard compared to relatively similarly priced products such as the x8 series and the 7600's.

If you would read the OP, you would note that I NEED a X1k card because they are the ONLY cards that support pixel clocks, my #1 requirement. (Well, some Matrox cards have pixel clocks too, but they don't count.)

I am not sure about ATI, but I know that in my Nvidia drivers I can add custom resolution support.

Yeah I'm sure they have them. I tested it on a friend's X1600 and other HDTV people say they do too.

Most video cards run resolution through what are known as 'character clocks', which are 8x8 pixels. They're called that because that's based on the old text-mode screen. The problem is that I have a TV with a native resolution of 1366x768, and 1366 is not divisible by 8, so I'm stuck at 1360x768 or 1368x768, both of which look awful due to the moire.
Pixel clocks use 1x1 blocks (obviously) and let you use any resolution.
Only X1k series and some Matrix cards have pixel clocks. Nvidia still uses character clocks and only emulates custom resolutions in the driver.
