I have read in this forum that several people have installed their Hard Drive on a new motherboard without reformating. All they did was delete the ENUM key and windows reinstalled drivers and the system configuration. Which ENUM key is it that you have to delete (There are several)? Where is it exactly? Were there any instabilities, errors, BSOD's, etc.. Please can you give me all your knowledge on this issue. Thanx

P.S. Please feel free to move me if I got it in the wrong heading. I didn't know were to post this.

These will explain why the W's OS HW ENUM key stuff/question is not easily answered.

As it says in the first article, To start Hardware Diagnostic, click Start, click Run, type hwinfo /ui in the Open box, and then click OK. Kind of an interesting report to look thru. May give you an idea of the boot process & the hazards of messing w/registry HW ENUM keys. What you recall reading may have made it sound easy/simple, but I don't think so.

Its OK, I just found out that you cannot delete the ENUM key in WIN XP or WIN2000. I had to go through the whole format. Oh Well!!!:(
