Finally my first my pair of real headphones. I can't believe Ive ever settled for anything less. These cans retail for ~450USD. But I got them off of headfi for 180 shipped. Ive used cheaper 50 dollar Senn's. and I never really used them because they felt stuffy and clamped down on my head. I originally considered the HD280's but felt i could do better if i went second hand. Now I think ive done myself in. My reciever gets no love, My Polk speakers go unused. I find myself shopping for a tube amp and some balanced cables. This is just what I needed anoter money sucking addiction.

Yea.. I used to have the 600 and now have the 650's. They're great. Get enough power to drive them and even the bass comes through well.

If you're starting in tube amps, look at the Onix SP3. You can probably pick it up used from audiogon.com or av123.com classifieds for around $500.

Was there a big difference from the 600? I dont know if i can afford a 500 amp right now. I was thinking maybe a CMOY. I really want to replace the cable, but it suprised me how expensive they can be.

A lot of people prefer the 600s to the 650s. What are the key differences between your 600s and your old senns? Which 50 dollar ones did you have?

I had these. I barely wore them because I found them uncomfortable. http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=005351
These 600's, I can wear them all day. Now I just a mic config. I want a nice tube amp and cables but I cant afford it right now.

There was just a slight difference from the 600's. IMO, the 650's has slightly more distinctive bass. Mostly, I replaced my 600's with the 650 because parts of the ear padding was worn down.

Yea.. the only issue I have with tube amps is the cost of replacing the tubes every 2yrs. They end up costing twice as much as the amp.

LOL, you know you can get replacement pads for the 600. Do you still have them? do you use the stock cables? if you use third party cables did you notice a difference. A lot of reviews ive read says it makes a huge diff. But seeing as how I dont notice the diff from a 192k mp3 from a 320k one. I dont know if i would appreciate the difference.

Yea.. I could have replaced them, but I had them for several years and I just needed an excuse to 'upgrade'. :) I gave the 600's to my dad.

Yes, some folks say the cable makes a difference, but playing from MP3, I'd sincerely doubt you'd notice. Maybe if you were playing from HD audio or LP. I had stock cables on my 600's.

I found out about it at Head-Fi.org and bought it on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Little-Dot-Micro-Portable-Headphone-Amp-Amplifier_W0QQitemZ190025798177QQcmdZViewItem). I don't have any technical info about it though.

If only my room was sound proof then my speakers might be close to as good as headphones.
Need a new set off headphones crushed my last ones, maybe i'll give these a try.

Welcome to the world of great-sounding headphones! I've never listened to the 600's, but the 580's are quite good. Hopefully you dont catch the upgrade bug like I did, because it gets expensive fast. Hopefully my rig will last for awhile before the bug hits again :).

Senns are awsome! I have a pair of 595's and love them, great for both music listening and long hours in front of the computer. Great sound and comfort.
