Is windows98SE or windows 2k better game platform? I heard 2k sucked at first, but now the drivers, etc. are all better now.

my machine went from 2600 points in 3dMark2001 with win98SE, to 2800 points in Win2000. When I installed the newest service pack, it went up again to 3200. Q3 and my other games are also noticeably faster. Plus, it doesn't crash nearly so much- it DOES still crash, but when it does you can usually recover without problems and start the game up again without having to reboot.

The only downside seems to be slower task-switching when you have a bunch pf windows open. But that could just be me.

If you really are having trouble choosing, you can easily have a dual-boot between both on your system- that's what I'm doing, just in case. But I haven't needed to run 98 for anything so far:D

IMO Win 2k and XP are just as fast for gaming as Win 98. But Win 2k will most likely have some compatibility issues with older games. You will have less troubles with this in XP though. I guess if you play mostly newer games. For the difference in stability of Win 2k or XP over win 98. I'd dump Win 98 if I were you. Since I switched over I'll never put 98 or ME on any of my systems ever again.

I think NT Platforms.. Either 2K or XP..

Most game require some heavy duty memory ..

And those NT are built for stablity and they have such great memory management not like Windows 9x..

You can't keep it on for a week without losing your task bar or crashing :/ Most likely hit 50% system resources left in about 12 hours.

Thanks all. Memory won't be a problem with 512 on all my machines. Win2k it is:cool:

One more question.........Can I install one copy on all my PC's? Like win98? The XP one machine only per copy sucks big time:mad:

I think you can only install if they all have the same hardware config

I think you don't have to re-activate it but theres a file in the Windows folder which tells Windows that you already activated.. Its in one of these threads.

Really? You can't have a bunch of win2k's? Huh, at one time we had a small server going with win2k, and we installed the same win2k on like two other comps and none had problems, besides getting reformatted for 98se and RedHat :D
