Unless you are 100% sure any hardware you buy from OCUK is 100% compatible with your system, I suggest you don't buy it from OCUK.

My father just bought the HDA XPlosion for me as a birthday present and it keeps crashing my system. Despite this being the sedcond card I've tried, have reformated my system several times and have upgraded my system with a new CPU and m/board I still get random system crashes / resets.

Having been in touch with AuzenTech, the manufacturers, they inform me that there is a compatability issue with some nVidia chip sets. As a result, I can't use the sound card with my current system which has an nVidia 6600 AGP graphics card and OCUK are refusing to take it back.

Believe it or not, their tech Support told me I should have called AuzenTech to ask them if the sound card was compatible with my system before I bought it, despite the fact my upgraded system was less than 3 weeks old with an MSI K8MM-V and a Sempron 3000+ and it easily meets the requirements OCUK specify which are identical to the specifications on the box.

£94 down the drain! Perhaps I should do that everytime I buy a piece of hardware from PC World in future too; check with the hardware manufacturer if it's compatible with my system and not bother reading the specification requirements on the box!

In all honesty, I will never buy anything from OCUK again and I'd advise you to do the same - STAY CLEAR UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE IT'S 100% COMPATIBLE!

Now my father is calling the C/C Company that he used to get a charge back for faulty / incompatible goods which OCUK shouldn't be selling without a warning about the incompatability with nVidia chip sets. It's THEIR responsibilty, not the customers, to check compatability of hardware before they sell it! If your system meets the specification they give then there is no reason why it shouldn't work!

So, Mr Mark Proudfoot, you can just watch for your charged back goods!

Is OCUK a store? If it is they they are responsible for taking it back if the product does not work for you. Im sure there is somekind of return policy.

Its like having an LGA775 mobo 3weeks before conroe was released and trying to stick the brand new cpu in your mobo.
Since most online sites will not refund your purchase, you always will have to call the manufacturer before you buy a product.

My bad! OCUK is overclockers.co.uk. I've posted in the wrong forum - doh!

LOL. They even deleted my post about the heads up! I guess they've had a lot of bad publicity about compatability issues in the past! Let's see what Watchdog make of it!

Speak to trading standards and if the law is indeed on your side then ask OcUK for a refund again. Be firm but polite. No point sounding angry or confrontational as you're dealing with a human being and it will just get their back up. Tell them you spoke to trading standards and tell them what trading standards told you.

One other thing you can try - if the card is less than 7 days old you can send it back using the distance selling regulations.

They deleted your thread because of the OcUK forum rules - no shop talk.

Failing all else you can sell the card.

I've had a lot of experience buying PC hardware down the years and I've certainly ran into other occasions when a shop wouldn't take back something that wasn't compatible with my system, even when it wasn't possible to find out in advance of the problem. It's just the luck of the draw whether you get someone sympathetic or a total arsehole dealing with your problem. It can even come down to whether the person on the other end is having a good day or not.

Don't think you can complain about OcUK delivery charges though as no one forced you to pay them.

Good luck :)

This is what WE said...

Having tried unsuccessfully to establish the cause of incompatibilty of the Sound Card with my system and as there is no information regarding this incompatibility from either the manufacture of the card or the manufacturer of the parts of my system. I wish to cancel the contract for this sale under the Distance Selling Regulations (2000).
Please note that the item has already been returned once and replaced under RMA 93755 and the replacement item was received within the last 7 working days. Please advise on procedure for return and refund of purchase price.

This is what THEY said!

Dear **********,

Incompatability is not covered under the distance selling regulations sir.
If the card is actually faulty then we can accept it back for testing. If you wish for us to do this then please email back and ask for an RMA number

So now you can see, we have tried the distance selling regulations route already. I'll give the trading standards a ring to see what they say. I'll keep you posted as to the outcome!

Distance selling regulations isn't limited to any particular reason for return, it should cover any dissatisfaction you have with the product, or even that you've simply changed your mind about purchasing it. So they're plain wrong there. They probably know it too since I'm sure they deal with DSR requests all the time. Pretty shabby service IMO.

The situation is complicated by having already RMA'd the card, since they could claim you no longer have the original card, or that it's no longer in resaleable condition. Dunno exactly how that affects things.

The good news is ebay is full of idiots who pay over the odds for everything, so if you sell it on there you should get nearly all of your money back.

most places will state they are not responcible for the item not working if it is imcompatible with your system. its YOUR responcibility to ensure it dose, not the stores. I do feel your pain though. not sure about UK, but in aus impritty sure you'd be stuck with it.
