Has anyone used this thing, I was thinking about maybe buying one when I get my DDR ram to see if it will help me in overclocking.

that kit is the same as the regular memory cooling kit, but with a fan, right? Read this article right here:

Dan's Data memory article (http://www.dansdata.com/fastram.htm)

He don't mention that specific item but he does discuss overall memory cooling- his conclusions should apply to the active version as well.

in other words, it's pretty neat, but pretty pointless:)

I really don't think active memory cooling would be necessary unless you're upping the VDIMM. ANd even then, you'd probably have to bump it REALLY high to need cooling. I've touched my memory after the system's been on for some time, and it's never hotter than case temp.

Which is why I'm confused as to why people put ramsinks on video cards. Does video memory really heat up that much? I would assume that using a combined HSF for the GPU and memory would be a bad thing, becuase then the heat from the GPU would be spread over to the video RAM, and heat it up. But that's just my though.....

Video card DDR ram is running at a much faster clock speed vs. the front side bus speed of a system

Naturally more speed = more heat I suppose.

I don't know about my video ram, I'v herd that people where surprised at some cards without heatsinks on their DDR memory clocked at 275Mhz, while my G-Force never had one and the default speed was 300Mhz, and I'm running it at 341 (the highest it will go without cousing artifacts) Mine runs a hair warmer than ambient. Although I have a heatsink for a U1 Rackmount, and it runs at 26C, with the one it came with, It runs at 56C

Well, not really. That article I linked explains and breaks down wattage ouput of SDR and DDR RAM. DDR actually runs cooler, all things being equal. RDRAM, however, really does need those heat spreaders on it.

Those memory cooling kits are pointless, but they sure do look nice. I suppose that's the main reason to get them right there!:)

Are you trying to make smores on your memory or something?

when they say clocked at 275 they arent talking about the DDR rate:eek: .....with your geforce the 300mhz is really 150mhz double pumped, when these people say 275 they robably mean 550mhz:eek: ......i have mine at aobut 460 which is 230mhz...

You'r probabily right, since my G-force is a lot older that that ATI Radion 8500, I bet they probabily have that thing at 275 IE 550, I never thought of that, that would get warm though.

I had a question on how the heck those little plates on the memory are suposed to help, all they do is increas the surface area bu a smitch.

I wonder what the heat disipation level is with chocholate.....And if the carmel in center acts as a heat pipe
