win2k and winxp aren't dos based, so it's impossible to start them from dos. If you're having problems getting them to boot, maybe you should post that. Even with the win2k installation disks you can't boot win2k, which has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Ok, not quite, but it's up there
to boot from dos yes, to boot the disk outside of windows no.
and could you please be a little nicer when dealing with ppl who dont know such things.
this isnt [H].:)
I don't think he was calling anyone stupid...looked to me he was referring not being able to boot into Win2K with the 4-disk set as being stupid.
Think you might have misread it a little. I didn't see any insulting tone in his reply.
the only ways you can boot into the setup is Bootdisk or boot from the cd .. And you'll need to use the Win XP or 2K bootdisks depending on what your installing obviously you can't run it from dos like win 9x

I asked after something I read on the net about typing commands to get the disk to start the installation, after an unconditional format I run the microsoft xp start up disks I downloaded all 6 of them and it worked, so now I'm running XP from a clean install,
Thanks for the help
