My OS is Win98 and i have IE5.0
You know how every so often you get an explorer error and it removes everything from your system tray and swaps everything around on your taskbar? Well i get that repeatedly. Everytime i run scandisk within 5secs i get an explorer error. Its soooooo annoying. Any1 else with the same problem or any sloutions to the problem would be great.

This kind of thing can be many many different things. Everything from a faulty component to some stupid task running in the background or pretty much anything. Very hard to trouble shoot. If you can think back to when it started happening and what you changed or installed. Some times it can be fixed with just upgrading service packs and drivers, I've noticed that even reinstalling doesn't help a lot of times, and that still doesn't really mean it's hardware, it could be some default driver for your usb joy stick that causes it or something like that. A handy too is to go into system information (start, accessories, system tools, system information) and under tools there's some helpful things, along with Dr. Watson. Run it, thenrun IE and see if it gives you anything of any use.
This is reason number 29836 why Windows sucks.
----EDIT----
The tools in System Information are only available on win 95/98. Possibly ME, but I haven't tried it.

This is sort of along my problem as well. As you can see in my sig, I have plenty of RAM and I have Windows 2000 Pro SP2 set to use all available RAM before a page file is created. After a time in IE, the File, Edit, View, etc toolbar disappears and you can no longer right click. Close down all IE windows and you still cannot right click, ctrl+alt+del to the task manager and you see there is still a phantom iexplorer.exe running, even if it's memory usage is as small as 1,240K, it still causes problems.
Anyone else experience this or know a way around that?

With regards to when the problem started i reckon about a month ago i defragged the hard drive and it froze half way through i had to use the reboot button ctrl-alt-del wouldnt work. my computer hasnt been the same since.
Do you have a burner? Do you have a second partition.. D: or something, use that as your backup or something...
Reinstall is just reinstalling over another OS.
