Ok so more then likely I will be completely overhauling a case I was given and putting on Acrylic side panels instead of the U shaped side panels (front, top and both sides all come off as one piece). What I am wondering though is what thickness should be used, and no 1/2" isnt reasonable hehe! The case doesnt need to be ballistics proof even though I do live a bit south of DC.

I usually go for 1/4 or 1/5. Less than 1/6 starts getting flimsier than I am comfortable with, by far. Unless you're shipping, then you may be able to get away with less but I wouldn't reccomend it. I had it at 1/6 and accidentally dropped a tool and cracked it bad.
Then, i'm super clumsy.

you can use 1/8 lexan.. better and not really pricy
lexan/polycarbonate is wicked difficult to bend.
1/4in acrylic is what I'd recommend, as long as its not at all structural.

awesome thanks, debating if I really want to make the effort to completely overhaul this case or if I want to just build out the YY server i picked up.
