I've been out of the Intel loop for so long, I'm not sure where to start looking.

I'm thinking of buying a Core2 Duo (6300 or 6400, probably) and a new motherboard and slapping my 7900GT in there. I do NOT plan on ever using SLI. I'm very noise-conscious. I would like to have at least two usable PCI slots, if possible. My 7900GT has a Zalman ZF900 on it, so it uses up the adjacent slot and you really need to give it two slots of good breathing room.

I read an article at Anandtech about Asus' new BIOS for the P5B series that allows multiplier changes and high FSB's. That sounded great, but the article made it sound like they still don't necessarily recommend that board.

I'm a big fan of Asus motherboards, so if the best overclocking Core2 board is an Asus, I would be thrilled.

Thanks!

*EDIT* I also need advice on RAM. I am completely new to DDR2.

if you can wait asus has a new P5B-E coming out soon with the C2 revision to the p965 chipset and one guy at xs has it at 500mh if IIRC. its suppose to be around the $100-$125 mark.
other wise right now for $117 the gigabyte P965-S2 mobo is ocing in the 485mhz fsb range. great price for the oc you get out of it.

I am thinking of dumping my P5kr. What should I get next which offers the best oc?

PS: it must be ddr2
Pss: it must support my TRUE

If you like Asus the P5K-Premium is very nice.

Blazing fire - I haven't heard of the P5Kr before. Why are you dumping it?

Most of the P35 chipsets OC well so any of them really should do you fine.

just a thought, but i got a p5k Premium for 129.99 off newegg (open box) i got everything in the box just hope the board is not DOA :p
