View Full Version : xp1900 cpu won't go over 100FSB??
Just put together a new system and I can't get the FSB over 100. Anything higher and it will go through the bios and RAID screens and lockup loading Win XP. Running at 100FSB no problems at all.
Without changing anything put old t-bird 1.4 back in got up to 140 no problem.
chip is stamped
x1900mt3c
AGKA 0142mpmw

I tried this chip in two different MB's with similar results.
Any ideas on how to get the chip to perform?
Or is it just a bad chip?
Thanks,

If your 1.4 allows you to 140fsb, and the XP only allows you to 100fsb on multiple boards, then I would say that you have a bad chip and should get it replaced.

The 8kha+ board is probably like my 8k7a+ and that there is a jumper on the board that selects 100 or 133.
My board is set at 100 by default. Yours might be as well.
Worth checking out. Check your book and board.
Yes it does have the jumper, I had it set at 100 while installing winXP. After getting everything installed and running good, I set the jumper at 133. Bam no start.

Are your dip switches set to auto? make sure they are and if you get any kind of post that shows the cpu reads right and just winds won't load you might have to try reformatting and reinstall windows.

Could be a WinXP glitch, it was installed during 100FSB and now u changed to 133. Dunno, I could be wrong though, try to install Win98/ME...

just a thought here....it could be the BIOS. Alot of older BIOS' have problems with Windows XP. Check your board manufacturers site for an updated BIOS.
First of all, Welcome to the forums.
I've also got an Epox 8KHA+ and although I'm running WIN 2K (based on the same kernal as XP) I have encountered a peculiar quirk with this board. On occasion after making changes, this board will not POST. It hangs at the "29" code on the debug card. The only way I've found to work around this is by completely removing the CPU, I have to do nothing else, just R&R the CPU. After which the board will boot to default then allow me to do anything I want to in the BIOS. This has happened both while overclocked and at default. I've tried all of the usual tricks that have been successful for me in the past including clearing the CMOS, all with the same results, hanging at "29". I've had this happen to me by just adding RAM, after which, no post. Remove and replace the CPU, all is fine. Once set up however, this board runs great.
A BIOS update will probably remedy this.
Try removing and reinstalling the CPU, it has worked for me. Let us know your results.
As far as the FSB issue, make sure that you have the jumper set correctly. This would be on page 3-5 in your manual, jumper "JCK1" should be on pins 2-3 for a 133FSB.
Good Luck!
To me it seems that your CPU is running in safe mode (100mhz), which means that you have a defective CPU. When you try to put it to 133mhz, do you hear any bios beeps, and what are they? I am betting that you have a bad CPU. The fact that your 1.4 T-Bird works at 133mhz should say it all. Lots of Luck!

Thanks for all the good ideas. I am running the newest bios dated 11-07-01. Ihave also switched the chip when I tried the 1.4 with no difference upon reinstallation.
I am going to try and reinstall XP with the jumper in the 133 slot, I jsut didn't notice it was in the 100 slot when I installed XP and switched it after the install was complete.
More and more I am thinking it is a bad chip. If I can't get it running properly by Monday Newegg says they will do a next day swap for me and I will have a new one to try.
Thanks for all the good ideas, any more?
