I've been eyeing these bluetooth headphones with mic from Platronics, $120 on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106067). My friend owns a pair and he loves em, and I just saw a 5 star review in T3 magazine(UK).

headphones~not headset = /
I couldn't be happier with the sennheiser HD 280 pros (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106328) that I bought a few years ago. And they sound even better now that they are plugged into the front panel connector of my new X-Fi platinum. Bass is tight and punchy, but not overpowering. Mids and highs sound great and are quite detailed. The 280's are a good neutral sounding, accurate pair of headphones that don't break the bank.
*Some people prefer headphones that exaggerate the bass or have a really bright highs but in terms of faithfulness to the source the 280's are more accurate then they should be for a sub $100 pair of cans.

Audio Technica A500
Sennheiser HD555
AKG K81DJ (beware of it's killer headclamp)
Koss Sportapros/Portapros
*edit*
And if you have some sort of receiver or headphone amplifier, the Beyerdynamic DT770/80

Well, the above four choices sound great unamped.

Evil, have you personally tried the HD555s? Was curious on the bass tone, from what I've heard about headphones with the open sides, they don't have the best bass but have really nice mids

I haven't personally used the HD555s, however it is known for a warm sound signature with well defined bass.
Both the Sportapros and Portapros are open ended headphones and yet they do have a large amount of bass.
Out of curiosity, what are you going to be using these headphones for? Some of them excel at certain areas and flounder at others.

What you mean using them for? Mainly for music (rap/metal) and also gameplay (CoD2,BF2,CS:S,WoW,FFXI,Eve) so yeah, I was looking at the DT770s but yeah, I dont know :P

well depenging on your electronic skills, i would say the HD580's with a eadphone amp to get the bass out of them. They are 300ohms so they are hard to drive which is why you need a amp for the bass to come alive.
headphone amp here in kit form one i suggest
http://tangentsoft.net/audio/pimeta/
about to do the same HD580 and amp soon just need a bit more money.
if you want a headphone amp slightly cheaper and able to take on the go

What kind of amp would the DT770s take? same one as you linked?

dont know what cans you refering to, i havent spent that much looking into other cans. I have made my choices on money i have and willing to spend on them. the amp is not what i would consider part of the cost since i could use it for another set of cans. If the ohms rating is the same as the HD580 300 then yea but you will have to tweak the amp for the cans. As different cans even with the same impedence will react differently with the amp. Just the same as tweaking a Gainclone amp for the speakers with it tweaked right for the setup it will sound better then just buying a off the shelf amp to go with it.
i know there is another forum for this kinda thing but cant find the link atm but here is the other.
http://headwize.com/index.htm
once i get more money together im gonna be spending more time on what tweaks should be done for what heaphones and go from there.

That pretty narrows it down to the DT770/80s, indeed.
The PA2v2 is a cheap $70 amp which should be able to power them quite well, or you can go with a Behringer AMP800 for around $40 (if you can find it). It's possible to run them unamped, but they will lose a lot of it's legendary "umph".
IMO the HD580s tend to blob the soundstage in three areas which doesn't really lend itself well to games where you need 3D positioning.

I have HD485's and I love them, the bass is plenty for me, and if I want to FEEL a game in my room I just turn on my z-5300e's :D

bose
Bose are overpriced and overrated. IMHO Bose products are for people with more money than sense.
I suggest you get the best Sennheisers you can afford, even their low end cans are excellent, and their high end cans will decimate Bose on any and every level.
It's well documented that Bose are overpriced and overrated, I remember years ago when Consumer Reports gave Bose a POOR rating, what did Bose do? They sued consumer reports.... LMAO
This case went all the way to the Federal Supreme Court, which ruled in Consumer Reports favor.
There's a lot of information on the net about why Bose sucks.

Here we go, another Bose bashing thread, theres just as much inflamed information about why Bose sucks as there is saying its god's gift to mankind. The last 20 posters had the sense not to put fuel on the fire, they just ignored it, and we've had a clean thread so far, lets keep it that way :)

jking aside i think he only said that cause no one else did.
i do think the 99% suggstion for Senn vs the .01% for bose, was enough said.

That is ridiculous, the 2nd post sugested Bose, just one word -Bose- For the thread starter to make an informed opinion, he should be provided as many sources as possible to make an informed decision as to what to buy. You can burry your head in the sand, in the meantime I'll try to help the thread starter get a nice set of headphones
Furthermore, I showed you proof why they suck, I then suggested Sennheiser. If you want to rebutt my opinion or tell everyone to Ignore the 2nd post for no reason, instead of a sny remark, show us why they don't suck. Help the guy make a wise decision.
Tell you something else, Your one post in this thread instead of helping the thread starter make a wise decision, was criticizing what I said. Here's a wild idea, how about helping the thread starter instead of being a Post critic.

I'd never ban someone for having a dissenting opinion or for being a post critic, I did however lock him out of the Classifieds for not having an unapproved e-mail (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=429212). If it wasn't for him being a post critic, I would have not caught that.
