Ok

so it's been awhile since my old rig got so slow and bogged down that I have only bee using it for internet surfing for about 2 or 3 years now.

Yesterday I finally ordered the parts for my new build

Gigabyte DS-3
E6400
Radeon X1900XT
2x1GB GSKILL DDR 800
WD Raptor 150GB

Hoping this will do the trick.

Anyway the games I used to like were Halo, Half life, CS, UT 2003, Battlefield 1942 and certain strategy games like age of empires.

I know to some of you this list sounds ancient but what are some good current titles and what did I miss that I need to catch up on?

F.E.A.R. HL2 and Farcry all have great A.I. and graphics that look incredible.

Far Cry, Half-Life 2(+lost coast+episode 1), DOOM3 (+ROE) All came out 2+ years ago and your old rig would have trouble with them. BF2 is more recent and for online play only. Also recommend Oblivion.

F.E.A.R Multiplayer is available for free on fileplanet. I love playign that game. And HAlo 2 for Windows Vista (if anyone is going to get it) should be coming out just after Vista does from what I hear.

Nice One! You should try HL2 Deathmatch, it's really fun.

Definitely HL2 and Far Cry, but you could skip Doom 3. I played it for the nostalgia factor since I was about 12 when the original Doom came out and pretty much introduced the FPS, but the story and gameplay in Doom 3 were pretty crappy. It looked good, but there weren't many puzzles or challenges. It was just classic Doom, run and shoot in complete chaos. HL2 and Far Cry required a lot more thinking and a lot less runnin' & gunnin'.

Civ 4, Need for Speed, Most Wanted, and EVE-Online are some incredible games.

If you're into WW2 and./or strategy games, try Company of heros, it's coming out... this month some time.

Sims 2 will load and run great on your new system

I'm actually being serious since I sold my gf my old comp and fired up Sims 2 on it for her, then I started playing it on my new machine.
