i have a crappy 250watt atx psu just sitting here and i figured since i am going to add a bunch of fans to my case i might as well use that one just to power my fans(just chassis fans not cpu or chipset fans) i can mount it right above my other psu and was wondering how i could run it w/o it plugged into the mobo.

i know i have to jump two wires but could i just cut the plug off and splice the two together and just cut/tape off the other wires that i dont need???
there would be a bunch of wires that i dont need coming out of the psu and if i could just cut them and tape them off then i would have less wires to work with and that would be easier.

it only carries 9amps on the 12v line.

Ok,
first things first,
You will want a 1amp 5volt resistor to draw power off the 5v line
otherwise the 12volt line wil be only 10V!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(it is a specialty resistor for computers, and plugs in the
4pin molex)

Yes you can cut out all the wires but id make sure it works first,
the wires that need to be connected togeter on the ATX molex
are the green and any of the blacks. Some may require another
line to be connected but we will get into that if it does not start.

But like i sayed keep all the wires on and test it before you clip
em all off.

Yes, you can mount it above your other power supply.
