i've run out of ports and was wondering if i can hook up this item to it, to expand the network

if this will work, how do i connect the hub to the router?? is it just simply plugging a network cable from say port 1 of the router to the uplink port on the hub?? many thanks

Don't get a hub, get a switch. Any switch will work, yes

I have the 4 port version of this, it is great

It's literally plug and play- connect a cat5 from the router to any port on the switch and you're good to go

so i basically can use ne port to connect the router to the switch? for example i'll connect a cable from port 1 of the router to ne port on the switch, and that will allow me to connct my other computers into the switch and allow internet sharing etc. the router doesnt have ne uplink ports, only 1 wan for modem and 4x rj45. many thanks

plug it into any port on the router and any port on the switch... see if you get a link light... if not you will need to use a cross over cable but most consumer switches today will auto detect (or look for a uplink port).

Remember that the link will take up 2 ports.... so a 4 port switch and 4 router switch ports will really only be 6 free ports

you may want to look on ebay for a used 8, 12 or 16 port switch.
