gathering pics...

the plan here is to D-Ice cool the Master card and MachII cool the Slave (XTX) card.

(pic from Gocchin on XS)
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/8530/gpupots2insidevc2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

use D-ice to remove RAM sinks
http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/1351/pict0326ew4.jpg

initial insulation job is TOO thick to fit on MASTER card :(
(this is NOT finished insulation... i KNOW those screws/base copper will NEED to be covered :p)
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/6610/pict0328xo4.jpg

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2843/pict0327aw2.jpg

MINIMAL insulation testing... air-flow is a MUST!!!
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9492/pict0329fw3.jpg

Contact test... does it get any better :D
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/5761/pict0330rm3.jpg

LOTS of work to do B4 actually running this.

mobo insulation / protection will be a MUST etc etc ... will try to keep updating here.

NEW insulation
there was a thinner pipe section sent with the "kit"

http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/3814/pict0334nn8.jpg

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/1351/pict0333ck7.jpg

still gets sweaty without ANY air-flow

http://img318.imageshack.us/img318/4342/pict0336xh4.jpg

but a little air-flow clears that right up :D

http://img470.imageshack.us/img470/8383/pict0340iv2.jpg

now to warm this thing up ... mount it... and see if it fits... ...

its going to be VERY close but im 75% sure it will SQUEEZE in there....

card prep:

there is a thick GLOPPY layer of dielectric grease under that 3/16" foam
and the plan is the same for the back

i think we have a weeee-ner :D:D:D

the added thickness of the back insulation on the XTX card will make this already TIGHT SQUEEZE even TIGHTER but i still think it will work ;)

i assume its been done, KingPin benches SLI with "tube" cooling (probably NL2)

and i think he does CPU "tube" cooled too.... 3x tubes  thats A LOT to keep up with!!!

LOL ya :D and i LOVE the fact that ive got a Camel Pipe and a Mouse Pot :p

sounds like a killa' combo dont it?

im NOT crazy enough to go straight to CF so ill be doing a single (Master Card) run to make sure this all works

cant pin it down just yet...

seems like when my temp probe (IN A BAD PLACE) hits -45C or ATT hits -56C  i get reboots and cant get windows to load :-/

still haven't spent enough time on this though

taking a break for dinner than back @ it (probably an all nighter :D)
or till the ICE runs out :(

was able to hit 864/864 AQUA stable BUT this is (i hope) not even close to MAX ;);)
(good place to start off the next session @ though :D)

Joe Camel

not TOO bad for a slave card :)

was hoping for more out of the CPU though

o and ive run into a minor problem...

COLD BUG?!!!!

less than -55C reading on ATT temp and it LOCKS!!
wont reboot till things warm up

yes, i have BOTH services disabled.

ANY SUGGESTIONS??

im running hipro5's volt settings (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1331436&postcount=20) already

IE MAX everything except MVDDQ at 2.151

so i get to play controlled cooling... dropping in a small part of a pellet or two trying to keep up with heat load.

its NOT very conducive to tweaking CPU and mem settings

good luck, whats the most your getting out of the cpu? 4.5ghz? Interested in the vcore your using.

Hehe, you mad man Joe! :D

Well the only thing I can think of is to set maxed voltages before you run it down in temp but maybe you already doing that. If it's locking up with max voltages then there isn't anything you can do except control the temperature. That makes things a little more interesting for sure but once you get a few sessions in it won't be as big a deal. You are getting some very nice clocks on the master, especially the memory and if you can run CF at those clocks look out. Your insulation is damn nice too as bazx said.

I'm curious what your temperatures look like coming out of the bench with that tube - ie how well does it hold a load?

Good luck tonight, we all wanna see some records fall.

Joe Camel

ya, maxed volts already :(

its a REAL PITA!!!

temps are VERY dependent on how big a piece of D-Ice i put in... trying to hold some kind of temp but if im too loaded (with Ice) when the bench ends, temp fall too low and it locks.

lets put it this way, if i put in just ONE full pellet, without load, its LOCK city in no time. so im using pieces the size of the tip of your pinkie finger

i ran out of Ice just a bit ago :(

cant say im too impressed with my scores given the clocks im running.

barely broke 25k in 05 @ 810/931 :-/

this was the only "bright" spot of the night:

840/931
450 x 10 , 1:1 , 3-3-3

Well 25k is a huge deal still, I'm happy with 1/5 the score.
Overall, jason ran close to 900/950 I beleive on master and xtx for his 25k AMD run.

well, i ran 4.7GHz without the volt-mods so there is probably no need for it but i ran 1.720V CPU all night just to make it easy.

thats the readout on my DMM and in BIOS.

considering i could hit 4.7's Pi 1M and high 4.6's Pi 32M im a bit disappointed it took me down to 4.500 in 3D

PS the CPU volt-mod did NOT get me any higher than what i could do un-modded.

thanks NoL

i bet with more time to tweak i could eek out more, but trying to keep up with BOTH tubes and that STUPID cold-bug had me running around like MAD!!

id need a 2nd set of hands (or NO cold-bug) to pull off a concentrated tweak session.

Jason got 20.6k (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1901399) not 25k on AMD at 890/850. 25K on AMD is completely impossible. Don't get me wrong, that score is one of the greatest 3D achievements ever in my book.

231k sounds like an ATi WR...so as far as Maxi's concerned, highest score on the planet. :p

Something about the CPUs seems weird at the colder temps. The best CPU's can pi in the 5.3-5.5 gig range, but 3D seems to fall hundreds of MHz. Even Vince is at "only" 5.1 IIRC. For me Pi stable to full 3D was just a bit over 100MHz drop.

Macci and Sampsa, and Jason of course have done "double DICE", I think Maxi has tried? Triple LN2 so far has only been done by k|ngp|n and Kinc AFAIK.

-55 is a very good cold bug trust me. Majority of them eff up around -30, some awful ones like my old one and Pedro's as high as the single digits.

Mix alcohol with the acetone to push the temps up to an appropriate level next time. Heck, could even go with pure alcohol, but it'll be a good 10C hotter at least.

woot... its Gautam!
glad to see you made the trip safe and sound :D

+10C would (could) help A LOT ... ill get some B4 my next session  thanks for the tip

one "pinkie tip" sized pellet just cant hold much of a load so being able to keep a few pieces in there would REALLY make things easier on me :D

EDIT:

nope, no ATi WR ... kyosen got: 242,000 +

http://www.oohashi.jp/c-board/file/AM3_242186_X6800_5.0G.png

but his was "ALL CPU" (5.0GHz) if i had his CPU setup and MY CF ...
