Guys. It's very tight here.

We haven't had gas in over a month (no cooking, hot water, or central air in a month, either). However, it looks like our landlord is gonna replace our natural gas lines with Propane.... and that will absolutely kill us. We can't afford to fill up the tank even once (1 fill up = 1 month of pay from me).

So, unless absolutely needed, my farm is going down. We have to pinch pennies everyplace we can pinch, and this is one area i can do it.

Sorry guys.

Hey frank, sorry to hear that. I'll add you to my prayer list.

A month without hot water, why would you stay with that landlord?

I know it gets rough some time. Believe me, I've been there to. Just keep your head up, your family first, and jump on any opportunity that presents itself

Lol! Frank have you tried a bake sale? Your cookies would sell faster than hot pancakes!

Shut down the farm, no point in keeping it going if it means you'll have to start loosing other things. Family, Food, and Friends. The three F's. (and Frank makes 4:p)

If there's anything I can do to help you, let me know, alright?

Sorry to hear, Frank. Take care of yourself and yours, and we'll fold a little harder.

I'm on propane myself, and know what you're talking about...really pricey!

Natural gas main is getting closer, just about a mile away now.

I'm sorry to hear that Frank!! family and real life always come first!! and good luck w/ the real life!! (why don't you just move to another place?)

TollhouseFrank

we can't afford to move. with rent at $200.... it's the cheapest place we can find, and even then, we barely afford it. We refuse to pay rent till the landlord fixes the problem... and we haven't payed a penny.

Wait your rent is only $200?!? Where do you live? I'm trying to find a buddy to split a 2 bedroom with in Placentia and that's $1400 a month.

How about you sell me your farm and end up with a few months rent?

WV. Rent here (this is a 3 bedroom house) is MUCH lower than elsewhere.

I work at a small isp here in wv. Part of whatmakes it rough is my wife doesn't have a job. She's in college, and that takes up a lot of money with us having to run the car every day of the week, and her not contributing financially.

Once she graduates in march and gets a job, things ought to get a lot better here.

I can tell you that I know your pain exactly. My fiance graduated 2 years ago, but before that, I had to support both of us on barely more than minimum wage. There was even a period when we went without heat in the winter time because I got laid off and couldnt afford the gas bill. I can tell you that it will get better. It did for us and it will for you. Just hang in there. Supporting your wife's school is very important right now. I know that if we hadnt managed to get my fiance to graduate, we would still be struggling now.

Hang in there Frank...at least your problems are temporary in nature...

In time, all things must pass...it'll get better.

Fold when you can, clean and polish your hardware when you can't... :D

Yeah... she's being kind about it. She has agreed to let me build a new system next summer once she has a job. I'd say we will be looking at the single most powerful rig on the team once i'm done..... I'm looking at possibly Dual Dual Core Opterons... maybe a Core2Duo Extreme.... or if it's out by then... a quad core CoreDuo (or CoreQuadro????)

on a side note. Here in wintertime, going without heat is suicide. Temps in the area rarely get above freezing in the daytime, and hit single digits and below (farenheit) quite often here during winter.

Hmmm... that's ruff.

What is more efecient?

computer heater (farm) or house heater? :p

Eeek. I know that natural gas prices have been rising redicilously high in the last year, dont know about propane though. Family owns 3 laundromats so we have dryers going and going and going throughout the entire day. At our place, a quater gives you 5 minutes of drying time. To run one dryer, it costs 4 cents a minute. We make a nickle of every quater in profit. Or, 60 cents an hour. Its rough...

Ill keep you in my prayers tollhouse, hope things get better soon.

THF i wish you the best.

i am facing much the same, allthough you are a bit further down that road.
i am glad you are looking at it instead of it all sneaking up on you.

you need to do everything you can to get your landloards burden off your back.

state agencies can help, if you know where to look. all you need is the internet and some time. there are laws to protect renters.

or a real estate agency/property management company.
if you have any pull with one of them somehow, money makes the world go round.
your landlord might sell out, on favorable conditions to you if you play your cards right and negoitiate like a fox..

my prescott rig drowned and my new rig (does not fold) in sig draws 1/3 of the power.
i just got my electric bill today, and its 78 dollars lower.

ive allso quit PAYING for car washes and have started doing it myself, once a month.
it saves me about 30 dolars a month (if you plan on 5 times a month or so, or a bit more than weekly)

thats doubled the time it will take for me to go broke. i find new ways to do more for myself with less everyday.

if i had a roomate that payed half of the "under the roof" living expenses
it would be a financial windfall.

look around. college kids, friends... basically anyone who is employed and wont be a bad roomate or become a destitute leech because of bad choices they make can help relieve the burden.

forget folding for now frank, not being homeless is better. as little debt as possible is allways better.
best of luck.

Frank I really feel for you. I remember when I first made the announcement that I had started folding, you were the first to welcom me to T32. We all go through rough times at some point or another in our lives, but in your case it sounds like it will be well worth it to keep your head up. I had just gotten through a point where I couldn't fold for nearly a year. My fiancee and I had moved in with her grandmother to help her through her grandfather's death (liver cancer), and she was a real stickler when it came to the computer being left on for any period of time without someone being right in front of it. Not to mention the fact that you can never move in with your significant others family without being driven nuts, but I have pulled through it. The paranoid twitches are back down to almost none, and I am now folding on 2 rigs 24/7. Just keep your head up, and remember we are all hoping for the best for you.

well not that it helps you , I just added a 3.06 HT machine so ...
and if it gets too cold , you can alway snuggle up wityh teh mrs , but not too long , cuz in 9 months you may get another surprise more than no heat .
If you keep them rigs fired up you may not need heat , just pull it from teh rigs! ,
Problem solved
next?

THF, we're behind you. You were also the first to welcome me also. The wife and home are first priorities so we understand. Can't wait to see your new rig next year!

Can't wait to see the new rig, either. When I'm done with it, I plan on it being the single most powerful machine on T32.
