Well I am now certain that my Hiper PSU is dead because a friend of mine brought over his PSU and I tested it on mine and it worked fine; anyways. I am going to RMA my Hiper but I am going to go ahead and just buy a new PSU, I cant trust the same PSU in my computer and plus I have heard bad things about it since my purchase. I am wondering what a good all around PSU is. my budget is about 130, but I wouldnt mind spending a little more, or a little less:) I am going to be running SLI 7900gs and I am getting a new X2 CPU also soon, so I need a SLI capable PSU with enough power for my system. I would also like to get a modular PSU, thats one thing I liked about my Hiper. So, any suggestions as to what I should get?

meeting your power requirements is simply a matter of level: brand=quality in the PSU market so choose Fortron Source or Antec in that order. obviously quite a hefty one if you plan to run 7900gs's in sli, the specs should say whether it is sli compatible and reviews will certainly point out any fatal flaws.

find which one on newegg.com, check for the lowest price on pricewatch.com enjoy your new beast when its back.

I think you should check out the Ultra X-connect

550w PSU, and its fully modular. I've heard good things =P

however some people frown on ultra, but my X-connect is doing me just fine =D

Ehh, I know some people have had no issues, but I would not trust that thing with all those expensive parts. Just an opinion, though.

No Ultra, I have heard bad things; horror stories in fact.

I have been eyeing the OCZ Powerstream. How do you like it PWatterson?

My main reason for asking what PSU is because I am not too sure what all the voltage mumbo jumbo means.

The 550W isn't the X-Connect. That's the X2. Although sometimes called the X2-Connect which I think is confusing.

That would be the original 500W X-Connect. They were made by Youngyear. All other Ultra power supplies are made by Wintech and do not have the same "rep."

I absolutely love it. It has never had a problem powering the parts in my sig. The adjustable rails are great, too. If you can find one on sale with rebates and all, they are great deals.

Oh.. and if your going to get your Hiper RMA'd, just use the replacement. I can understand having the bad taste in your mouth, but the build quality really isn't bad and the issues with the resistance in the modular connector and the lack of a second PCI-e or 8-pin doesn't affect you as you have one video card and an AMD processor.

Yeah, but I am going to be getting two 7900gs soon.
