when i look in CPU-Z
it shows 3-3-8-3, 2T timing
i went in to the BIOS->ADV CHIPSET->DRAM CONFIG. it showed:
current setting ----- options
auto/2T ---------- (auto, 1T, 2T)
3/auto ---------- (auto, 2, 2.5,3)
3/auto ---------- (auto, 2,3,4,5,6,7)
8/auto ---------- (auto, 5,6,7,8,9,10-15)
3/auto ---------- (auto,2,3,4,5,6,7)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
under POWER BIOS:
+5v = 5.16 (constant)
DIMM = 2.75 (constant)
5VSB = 5.04, 5.08 (changes(back n forth) after few seconds)
+12V = 12.14, 12.23 (changes(back n forth) after few seconds)
Chipset = 1.53, 1.54 (changes(back n forth) after few seconds)
CPU = 1.46, 1.47 (changes(back n forth) after few seconds)
3VSB = 3.39 (constant)
Battery = 3.15 (constant)
current setting ----- options
CPU = Auto ------------(-0.2v...0...+0.35v, auto) +0.025v increment
DIMM = Auto ------------(Auto, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7...3.2v)
Chipset = 1.5 ------------(1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8)
Mem Freq = Auto --------------(Auto, 100mhz, 133, .... 250mhz) or DDR200, 266...500

1) should I be concerned/change the settings from "AUTO" to actual values?.
2) is that what causes the fluctuations in voltages?
i already downloaded memtest86+ and Prime95. I cant run it now though.
I may only be able to run it after a few days... :|
...Please, humor me on this one.. this has been eating at me for a long time now..
i have already thought about OCing, and reading articles, faqs, threads etc ever since december. I just never really tried it, cos I wanted to learn more
but the thing is, I have read so much, that I just have a vague idea about the whole process of OCing.. I have a lot of general ideas, processes, and specific tips/tricks...
just not enough to really 'combine' them all together :D

It's kind of hard to give you any help because I have no idea what motherboard, processor or memory you are using. Why don't you go to User CP on the main page and fill in your sig with your system specs. Also include in your next post The FSB, multiplier, and divider you are using.
The timmgs reported cy CPU-Z are rather relaxed.
Are those (auto/2T, etc quoted) actual settings or options. I don't understand how a "2T/AUTO" would be an opton, which is it AUTO or 2T?
1.)...
Whether set to auto or 3, if CPU-Z reports a value of 3, then it is 3.
If you want to chance a value then take it off of AUTO.
Setting voltages to specific values in the BIOS will not make them more stable.
2.)...
That's just the way it is. Some MOBO (models) control voltages better than others, but they all vary.

when I go to "Adv Chipset", under "DRAM Config"
under Command rate Timing, it shows [Auto/2T]
thats EXACTLY what the selection shows... the current setting... the selected option.. etc etc
but when i hit "enter"/ try to change it, i have the options: 1T, 2T, Auto.
but only the "Auto" is highlighted. so Im assuming that its choosing a safe value to run on, since "auto" is selected... and not a real value
same for everything... it shows auto/3 or Auto/8
but when i try to change the values, Auto is the one highlighted/selected

will it be safe to change it? dont want to take chances

some guys have crappier mobos than me... but how do they make it stable?
proper cooling? volt mod? or do I need to change the stock settings(overclock/underclock) to make it more stable

Try using the arrow keys to highlight the selection that you want.

FSB (or htt) x multiplier = CPU speed, 9*200.9=1808
FSB (or HTT) x divider = memory speed, 200.9*(????)=????

Those are the SPD timings for your memory. They are used by the BIOS if memory speed settings are set to AUTO. What does CPU-Z (memory tab) say your memory is at...all the parameters please?

Of course it will be safe to change it...if you know what you are doing.
The only way to actually damage components (CPU,Memory or video cards) is to increace volts. If you increace volts you have to do it in the smallest increments possible and monitor temps. By just changing bios settings (other than volts) the worst that can happen is blue scren, no post, no boot. If any of these happen you just reset the bios and start over again.

First why do you think you have instability..you havn't mentioned that.
As for overclocking, my hero, OPB, says "He who tries the most goes the fastest."

Try using the arrow keys to highlight the selection that you want.
uh, yeah, i know how to work my bios... i only said that explanation cos you were asking which it actually was... whether auto or an actual value...
FSB (or htt) x multiplier = CPU speed, 9*200.9=1808
FSB (or HTT) x divider = memory speed, 200.9*(????)=????
eh? i dont really get this.. is this those ratios? like 1:1, or 5:4? if yes, i have no idea
probably 1:1, since i never changed any values yet.. im assuming 1:1 is the default setting

not sure what youre exactly looking for... didnt I just say what cpu-z says?
3-3-8-3 @ 2T
or did you want the other latencies/timings?
First why do you think you have instability..you havn't mentioned that.

i was asking why my system was not stable... so i have no idea ..."First why do you think you have instability..you havn't mentioned that."
dont make me guess the answer to the question i asked :D
another question... how do I tell what type of chipset my memory uses?
i already checked everest and cpu-z, and checked the box of my memory..
i dont see anything that says whether its BH-5, TCCD, TCC5 etc
ps.. i may sound ungrateful, sarcastic and rude... but im just trying to get my point across :D
