View Full Version : Are there dual socket conroe mobo for server?
Everything I've read said to get any other cpu other than a conroe is a waste of money. With that being said, I need to build a server preferable with dual socket for dual conroe...Does such mobo exist or am I doomed to go with Xeon?

there are no dual cd2 boards, and there will never be.
what you are looking for is a woodcrest board. these are the new Xeons, and are conroe cores. much more expensive mind you. ;)

You are doomed.
The late AMD Socket A's I think where the last ones that could be used in Dual Boards that didn't require a special CPU. I doubt you could find one today that can do the same with newer cpu's since its basically a cash cow to the company charging 2, 3 or 4+ times the price of a single CPU chip (dual core or single core). But then again not everyone buys the 8-way chips that cost what $1000+ per chip.

Or just make a Pentium D system. I built a SQL server using the Pentium D 930. Runs sweet.

The lower 51## Woodcrest Xeons are not that expensive, its a good motherboard for them that is, and to find one that overclocks at all, I'd suggest asking (or better yet searching (http://www.2cpu.com/search.php)) at http://forums.2cpu.com/
newegg's Woodcrest prices

Starting price $245 each.. doesn't sound expensive to me.
on a side note, i have noticed you refer to Xeons as "Xenon's" quite a few times. i'm sure its just a typo that you repeat out of habit, but i figured i'd point it out. ;)
I'll edit this post, but don't be looking for me to get this right ever. :p

actually you are right, i never knew they made a 1.6ghz model. that's not that expensive at all.

while im doing research and intels has not released updated whitepapers yet. THe idea is the same as the pin mod on the LV's. IE buy a 1.6ghz or 1.86gh woodcreast find the right pads to connect using a silver pen for 333fsb and your set. ATM the only FSB info i can find is for the 266 or 1066, wonder how much longer till the update them to show the 333mhz bsel's.
so far this is the only info i have found reguarding the BSEL pads.

i downloaded alot of xeon whitepapers and even the socket771 tech doc/whitepapers. nada, unless i overlooked it, was gettign tired so i had to quit.
